WURD Radio (96.1FM / 900AM / WURDRadio.com / WURDApp), the only African American owned and operated talk radio station in Pennsylvania, and one of a few in the country, will host its highly-anticipated 15th Year Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 6th at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts at 300 S. Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA. Not only will it celebrate WURD as an award-winning, independently-owned, community-driven news-talk outlet, but it will convene a number of local and national influential luminaries who will reflect on the station's impact over the years since its founding by Walter P. Lomax, Jr. M.D. in 2003. The Kimmel Center is the official lead partner for the celebration providing venue and logistical support.

Activities will begin promptly at 5:30pm with a "Sankofa Awards Reception" featuring a live performance by R&B, Blues & Folk singer & guitarist Toshi Reagon along with an appearance by legendary author & former Poet Laureate Sonia Sanchez. Following that performance will be a conversation at 8pm moderated by WURD President & CEO Sara Lomax-Reese with nationally-recognized activist & author DeRay Mckesson, Sanchez, and author, activist & commentator Marc Lamont Hill. The evening will continue with the WURD Backstage After-Party hosted by Wake Up With WURD's Dr. Aaron Smith (aka "The Rappin' Professor").

"WURD Radio's evolution has been a real journey," said Lomax-Reese. "We have grown from being a standalone AM talk radio station to where we are now offering a multimedia platform that includes daily on air dialogue on 900AM and 96.1FM, digital content on wurdradio.com, aggressive social media outreach, powerful community events and the launch of a new environmental justice project called ecoWURD.com. We view this celebration as an opportunity to acknowledge our growth over the last 15 years, thank those who have contributed to it and, as always, to discuss the very real issues facing Philadelphia's Black communities which are mirrored in Black communities nationwide."

"The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to partner with WURD Radio for this milestone anniversary celebration," says Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center. "Diversity and Inclusion are core to the mission of the Kimmel Center and, as the region's most impactful performing arts center, we are extremely proud to stand with Pennsylvania's only African American talk radio station. WURD not only amplifies the voice of the Black community in Philadelphia and across the nation, but also brings people together for thought provoking discussions like the one we'll host at the Kimmel Center in October."
