Keyon Harrold Replaces Hugh Masekela for Jazz Epistles Concert at Annenberg Center

Hugh Masekela, originally part of the Jazz Epistles concert with Abdullah Ibrahim, has unfortunately withdrawn from the tour due to illness. Trumpeter Keyon Harrold will perform as special guest for this concert, which celebrates the music and legacy of the Jazz Epistles, South Africa's earliest and most influential jazz bebop band. The performance on April 29, 2018 will explore the sounds and impact of the Jazz Epistles including music from their seminal Jazz Epistles recording as well as hits from Ibrahim's illustrious career.

Hailed as "the future of the trumpet" by Wynton Marsalis, Grammy® Award winner Keyon Harrold is one of the world's most sought-after young trumpeters on the scene. A graduate from the renowned Mannes Jazz Program at the New School, Harrold is an eclectic trumpeter/music producer/arranger/songwriter who has been featured on nearly 100 albums ranging from jazz, R&B, pop, gospel, blues and hip hop. Harrold has toured and recorded with or produced for some of the world's best artists and ensembles such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Common, Erykah Badu, and Lauryn Hill, among others. He also has had numerous musical placements in film and TV including the Miles Davis Biopic Miles Ahead, directed by Don Cheadle, where he is featured as the trumpet sound of Don Cheadle playing Miles Davis. His album The Mugician is currently out on Sony/Legacy/Massappealrecords.

Tickets to the performance are available at AnnenbergCenter.org or 215.898.3900.
