Subscriptions to Civic Theatre of Allentown's 2009-2010 season, which features the Lehigh Valley premiere of the Broadway smash Rent, are now on sale. Interested patrons can buy these subscriptions, which will save them up to 25 percent on their tickets, by calling Civic's Box Office at 610.432.8943 or visiting Civic in person at 527 N 19th Street between 10am and 4pm any weekday.
Civic's 2009-2010 season will open this October with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Abe Lincoln in Illinois, a show that chronicles the life of the celebrated President from his childhood through his final speech in Illinois before leaving for Washington. Lincoln was born 200 years ago this past February.
2009 also marks another anniversary, the 20th of our annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, which has since become one of the Lehigh Valley's most treasured holiday traditions. We will celebrate with a special production this December, complete with reunions of the thousands of actors and crew who have brought this classic tale to life on our stage.

We'll start 2010 with everybody's favorite musical about a blood-thirsty plant; Little Shop of Horrors. Among one of storied writing duo Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's most treasured accomplishments; this rock musical, with music composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, is guaranteed fun for audiences of all ages. Little Shop will run in February and March of 2010.

The 2009-2010 season will close like it began, with a Pulitzer Prize-winning show. This one, however, just happens to be Rent, the seventh-longest-running Broadway show of all time! Slated for May 2010, this beloved musical tells the story of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS. The winner of the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, this production will be among the most epic and exciting ever seen at Civic.

Please note that all of the shows listed above will be produced in Civic's 19th Street Theatre.

Season subscriptions for Civic Theatre's 2009-2010 season are available in 3-show or 4-show blocks. These subscriptions are the best way to ensure great seats, especially for a show like Rent, which is guaranteed to be a sellout. Single tickets for Civic's 2009-2010 shows will go on sale on Tuesday, September 8th.
