Here's the WORLD PREMIERE video debut of Frank Wildhorn's THE MAN WHO LAUGHS, opening on July 10, 2018 Art Hall Opera Theater, Seoul. The spot features a solo violin and revealing the composer at the piano performing the theme from the show began running on Korean media this week. The Man Who Laughs is Wildhorn's 12th musical to open in Seoul. Based on Victor Hugo's novel, the romantic melodrama is credited with inspiring the comic book figure The Joker, based on the character, Gwynplaine.

As the world continues to face dark times, members of the theatre community are choosing to respond to tragedy with art that spreads hope for the future. According to Matthew Curiano, when the cast of the Ogunquit Playhouse's production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame began rehearsing for the show, they 'found truly just how poignant, powerful, and undeniably relevant the story [they] were telling was.' As a result, several of the cast members joined together to film a video using the words of the song 'Someday,' sung by the characters Esmerelda and Phoebus in the second act of Hunchback, as a prayer for the future, and to honor the victims of the Orlando massacre at Pulse Nightclub, the police shooting in Dallas, and to Alton Sterling and Philander Castile, who were both killed by police.

Happy Birthday Claude-Michel Schonberg! Schonberg is best known for his collaborations with the lyricist Alain Boublil. Thier stage musical version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, which opened at the Palais de Sports in Paris in 1980, opened to acclaim in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987. In 1989, their success continued with the musical Miss Saigon, which starred Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce. Schonberg's next project with Boublil was The Pirate Queen, a musical about the 16th century Irish pirate, chieftain and adventuress Grace O'Malley, which opened on Broadway on April 5 2007.

Today in 1987, Les Miserables opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 6680 performances. Written by Claude-Michel Schonberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is set in early 19th-century France. The plot follows the stories of many characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution. An ensemble that includes prostitutes, student revolutionaries, factory workers, and others joins the lead characters. In January 2010, it played its ten-thousandth performance in London, at Queen's Theatre in London's West End. On 3 October 2010, the show celebrated its 25th anniversary with three productions running in the same city: the original show at London's West End; the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary touring production at the original home of the show, the Barbican Centre; and the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena. The original Broadway cast included Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, David Bryant as Marius, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Michael Maguire as Enjolras, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine, Braden Danner as Gavroche, Donna Vivino as Young Cosette, Jennifer Butt as Madame Thenardier, Leo Burmester as Thenardier, Randy Graff as Fantine, and Terrence Mann as Javert.
