TV: Lamb's Players Releases 'Blackout Day'
by Nicole Rosky - Sep 10, 2012 This past summer, at Lamb's Players Advanced Musical Theatre Camp, under the direction of Associate Artistic Director, Kerry Meads, students were challenged to write the lyrics for an original song about the effects of texting and social media on their relationships. They worked together as an ensemble, along with Lamb's Associate Artists, and brainstormed about their thoughts and feelings. Phrases flew out about their frustration with 'faceless conversation' and 'why can't we unplug and give a hug' or 'Why do you only want to talk to me across a broadband?' They expressed a longing for connection and community that they felt was epitomized by last year's blackout in San Diego on September 8. Jon Lorenz, co-creator of 'Mixtape', compiled their free flow of ideas into a song called 'Blackout Day'. |
