Last night, April 5th, ten of Broadway's most distinctive vocalists celebrated four-time Grammy award winner Sam Smith at 54 Below in a concert of his signature songs of heartbreak, loss, and hope in Broadway Loves Sam Smith. The starry cast included Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan ('The Last 5 Years,' Newsies), Ben Platt ('Pitch Perfect,' The Book of Mormon), Carrie Manolakos (Wicked, Mamma Mia!), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), Zak Resnick (Mamma Mia!, Piece of My Heart: The Bert Berns Story), Meghann Fahy ('One Life To Live,' Next to Normal), Adrienne Warren ('Orange Is The New Black,' Bring It On), Janet Krupin (If/Then, Bring It On), Isabelle (American Idol), Jason Gotay (NBC's 'Peter Pan Live,' Bring It On), and Natalie Weiss (Everyday Rapture, Les Miserables). The cast of the Tony Award-winning musical NEWSIES took their excited final bows at the Nederlander Theatre today to uproarious applause from a packed audience. NEWSIES featured a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, NEWSIES was directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work. NEWSIES enjoyed almost two and a half years on Broadway.

The national tour company of PIPPIN challenged the Broadway cast of NEWSIES to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and the boys have taken them up on their dare. NEWSIES is now challenging Alan Cumming and the Broadway company of CABARET, the Broadway company of MATILDA, and James Iglehart and the cast of ALADDIN. Watch their submission below!

Two years ago, on September 15, 2011, Newsies, the hit Tony Award-winning 'critics' pick,' played its first performance at Paper Mill Playhouse. Ever since that very first night, Newsies fans, self-proclaimed 'fansies,' have been a cause for celebration, helping to propel the show from a limited regional theatre run to a limited Broadway engagement and then to extend into a record-breaking open-ended run. Schmackary's Cookies, aka: The Official Cookie of Broadway, hosts 'Broadway Bakes' a special benefit for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, this week May 27-31. Schmackary's will donate half the proceeds and all tips generated from this event to BCEFA as part of this special pre-Tony Awards 'Thank You Broadway' event. Yesterday, Corey Cott, Ben Fankhauser, and Newsies alum Ryan Steele stopped by where they performed an alternate version of 'Watch What Happens (Reprise)' and Steele showed off with some signature pirouettes. Music, magic and merriment came together when Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida presented the 29th annual 'Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade' holiday TV special, airing today, December 25 on the ABC Television Network. Cast members from Disney's Newsies: The Musical, performed 'Carry the Banner' down Main Street, U.S.A., with a performance from the Tony Award-winning musical.
