First Annual YIDDISHFEST Announces Lineup of Artists

An initial roster of artists and performers have been announced for the inaugural YI Love New York YiddishFest. Produced by the Yiddishkayt Initiative (YI) (Avi Hoffman, Producing Artistic Director) and Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Artistic Director), the nine-day festival celebrates the legacy of the Yiddish language and its impact on entertainment and culture with readings, concerts, film screenings, lectures, panel discussions, and famous personalities in the world of Jewish culture from December 21-29. Centenary Stage Company Presents KVETCHES OF 1932

Centenary Stage Company is thrilled to finish out our month long Fringe Festival with the Kvetches of 1932. This production will run November 14 to November 17 in the Edith Kutz Theatre on the campus of Centenary University at 715 Grand Avenue in Hackettstown, NJ.

YIVO To Present Rediscovered Play BREACH OF PROMISE Tomorrow Night

Leon Kobrin's rediscovered 1912 play BREACH OF PROMISE, a darkly comic slice of tenement life in New York City, will be presented tomorrow evening, July 31st at 7 pm at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in a newly commissioned English translation (from the original Yiddish) by writer/director Allen Lewis Rickman.

Centenary Stage Company Announces 2019 – 20 Season Of Events

Centenary Stage Company announces 2019/20 season of events with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Darlene Love slated to kick off the season. Now available to Season Subscribers the 2019/20 season features a host of professional theatre productions including the return of Centenary Stage Company's popular Fringe Festival, the January Music Festival highlighting an array of top tier musicians, as well as a vast selection of dance events featuring premiere professional dance companies. The 2019/20 season of events is now available for Season Subscribers only.  Individual ticket sales will be available to the general public beginning July 1, 2019.

TEVYE SERVED RAW Ends Limited Return Engagement Today

TEVYE SERVED RAW made its New York premiere in 2018 to unanimous rave reviews ("Hilarious" - Jewish Standard; "Incredibly moving" - Tablet; "Brilliantly directed" - Forward) and, by popular demand, returned this year to its home at The Playroom Theater, 151 West 46 Street (just east of Seventh Ave.) There are only two more performances before the strictly limited engagement concludes tonight.

TEVYE SERVED RAW To Reopen This Monday

TEVYE SERVED RAW made its New York premiere in 2018 to unanimous rave reviews and, by popular demand, will return this Monday, January 28th to its home at The Playroom Theater, 151 West 46 Street (just east of Seventh Ave.), where it will play through February 13th.

TEVYE SERVED RAW Company To Play Carnegie Hall

The TEVYE SERVED RAW troupe – currently preparing to resume performances at The Playroom Theater – will present a selection from their show on April 15th at Carnegie Hall, as part of FROM SHTETL TO STAGE: A CELEBRATION OF YIDDISH MUSIC AND CULTURE. The evening will also feature Mike Burstyn, Paula Vogel, Avi Hoffman, Eleanor Reissa, Joanne Borts, Daniel Kahn, violinist Gil Shaham, and pianist Evgeny Kissin.   

TEVYE SERVED RAW Returns to The Playroom

Sholem Aleichem's Tevye stories formed the basis of Fiddler on the Roof. TEVYE SERVED RAW presents this material 'raw,' i.e., as it was created in Europe, before being Americanized for Broadway.

Critically Acclaimed TEVYE SERVED RAW Extends Off-Broadway

The Baltimore Playwrights Festival is pleased to present Consent, by Glennyce Lynn, directed by George Andre Title, opening August 16 at The Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre (817 St. Paul Street, Baltimore, MD). Consent will run weekends August 16 through August 26th, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.

TEVYE SERVED RAW opened Tuesday, July 17th. Just two nights earlier, the NYT/Folksbiene opened the first American production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF in Yiddish. Two of the stars of that highly successful production were in attendance at the opening of TEVYE SERVED RAW. Jackie Hoffman, who plays Yente in FIDDLER, and Daniel Kahn, who plays Perchik, were the first to jump to their feet at the evening's standing ovation.

YIVO Presents 'The Essence of Yiddish Theater'

The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research presents The Essence of Yiddish Theater, a theatrical introduction to Yiddish language and Yiddish theater. The performance will take place on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 7:00pm at YIVO's location at the Center for Jewish History (15 West 16th Street).
