Starz Announces Two New Series, P-VALLEY and HIGHTOWN

Starz, a Lionsgate company (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), announced today the series pickups of 'P-Valley' (working title), based on her play Pussy Valley, and 'Hightown,' formerly called 'P-Town,' from Rebecca Cutter ('Gotham'), Gary Lennon (STARZ Original series 'Power') and Jerry Bruckheimer TV.

Strange situations and encounters are something that happens in many of S. Karlan's short plays. A strange connection here, a misunderstood relationship there, the question of love and gender, robotic partners, and pretty much anything that leaves you wondering what the hell is really going on make up some of his stories. For audience members, there is always one play that stands out the most, and usually you hear them talking about it on the way out. 'He should have just loved her,' said one older man after one of his shows last March. 'So what if he wasn't sure that she was a man or a woman.' People have vastly wide opinions about the material. But if the idea is to create a dialogue, S. Karlan's play do just that.

Acclaimed British director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise) has signed on to direct a new adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's classic, romantic, gothic thriller penned by screenwriter Jane Goldman (Kingsman series, X-Men: First Class). It tells the story of a newly-married young woman who, on arriving at her husband's imposing family estate on a bleak English coast, finds herself battling the shadow of his dead first wife, the mysterious Rebecca, whose legacy continues to haunt the house.
