Philadelphia's Bearded Ladies Cabaret returns to New York City with their brand new show, You Can Never Go Down the Drain: A Musical Children's Program for Adults in 2018, presented by La MaMa. Mr. Rogers always said: no matter how bad things are 'you can never go down the drain.' Using and abusing iconic songs from his children's show, Philadelphia's Bearded Ladies Cabaret put this idea to the test. For this workshop performance, expect a goldfish funeral, gay romps into the land of make-believe, and some earnest questions about irony. You Can Never Go Down the Drain runs for just four performances between February 3-9 at La MaMa's First Floor Theater.

During their John Guare Festival and the World Premiere of Guare's epic Lydie Breeze Trilogy, EgoPo Classic Theater is collaborating with Drexel University's Performing Arts Department for an evening symposium, Future of American Playwriting, Saturday, February 3 at 4 p.m. The panel will feature John Guare and local playwrights Jacqueline Goldfinger, Bruce Graham, and James Ijames. The panel is moderated by Broad Street Review Editor in Chief Wendy Rosenfield. The symposium will be held in the Stein Auditorium in Nesbitt Hall at Drexel University, 3215 Market Street. Folger Theatre continues its 2017/18 season with The Way of the World, a new comedy freely adapted from the classic play by William Congreve. Nicole Fonte's Beautiful Decay performed at the Wilma Theater on November 29th, 2017 for BalletX is a wonderful depiction of the contradiction of emotions that come with working through the processes that are the beginning of the end. Based off of Mark Golebiowski's 3-D photographs of decaying flowers in their varied states of wilt. The autumnal aesthetic of the costumes combined with sets and backgrounds of whites, greys and light blue hues really pushed the idea that there can still be vibrancy in demise. You would think that these themes and colors would create a disconnect, but in reality they actually help move the story along.
