The album chronicles Montgomery's musical journey from the urban blues and soul of his native Detroit to the rural blues of the deep South as played in the Mississippi Delta. His first trip to the Delta was inspired by a movie that he made with Morgan Freeman and Willie Nelson, among others, called "Delta Rising" that led to the James Montgomery Band playing the Ground Zero Blues Club as the personal guests of Freeman's and significantly changed their lives as musicians.
