Engelbert Humperdinck to Make His Segerstrom Center Debut, 9/20

Grammy nominated, Golden Globe "Entertainer of the Year" and multi-platinum selling artist Engelbert Humperdinck will perform at Segerstrom Center for the Arts for one night only on Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall. The charismatic and consummate entertainer will please audiences and "Humperdinckers" alike with music from his vast catalogue, including hits such as "Quando, Quando, Quando," "Release Me," "The Last Waltz," "Spanish Eyes" and many more tender ballads. London Times calls him, "The premier voice of the 20th Century."

For his Segerstrom Center debut, Humperdinck will perform music from his latest album. The show will also feature a virtual duet with Sir Elton John. Humperdinck has released more than 80 albums in his four decade career, and this newest is his first duets CD, Engelbert Calling. The CD went straight to # 3 on the HMV Album charts on the day of its release. His Master's Voice (HMV) is the largest and most respected retail outlet in the U.K. The new album features duets with a Who's Who of the music world, including Sir Elton John, Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Shelby Lynne, Charles Aznavour, Johnny Mathis, Cliff Richard, Neil Sedaka, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, Lulu, Beverly Knight and Gene Simmons, to name a few. Sir Elton John praised his new recording partner as "one of the sweetest and nicest people I have ever worked with." He went on to say, "We had a great time singing together. He is 76 years old and still sounding as good as ever."

Tickets to Engelbert Humperdinck start at $59 and will go on sale Sunday, April 6 at 10 a.m. PST. His name, Engelbert Humperdinck, comes from the 19th century German composer who wrote Hansel & Gretel. He is a living legend in the international music industry for the last 40 plus years and has sold more than 150 million records worldwide.

With four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe for "Entertainer of the Year" (1988), 63 gold and 24 platinum records and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Humperdinck continues to tour the globe. In the past few years, he has joined in elite group of musical artists, such as Tony Bennett and Burt Bacharach, striking a new chord with a younger generation. Humperdinck has recorded everything from the most romantic ballads to the platinum-selling theme song for the Beavis and Butt-Head movie. His remarkable voice and extraordinary talent has endeared him to millions of fans around the world. The MTV generation has just "discovered" him via two appearances on MTV Beach House, Chilling with the Weaze and Oddville, appreciating what a magnificent musician the rest of the world has celebrated for decades.

Few people realize that several of the major forces in the world of rock n' roll, including Jimi Hendrix and The Carpenters, started out as opening acts for Humperdinck in the late '60s, '70s and '80s. And let's not forget Humperdinck taking #1 away from The Beatles, as well.
