Sex sells. Advertising giants reap enormous profits from images that sexualise and objectify women. But why aren't these corporations accountable for maintaining a culture where self- harm and body dysmorphia are common?

Schimmel Center-located in the heart of downtown Manhattan at Pace University-today announces programming for its 2018-2019 season, featuring 30 events spanning multiple genres including award-winning comedy, dance, cabaret, folk and rock, documentaries, world music, and family programming.

Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Today, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

Schimmel Center presents two performances by acclaimed fado artists-Ricardo Ribeiro on Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Lula Pena on Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m.-as part of the New York Fado Festival. 

The Schimmel Center presents New York Theatre Ballet in Mother Goose on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. The ballet features the wit, wisdom and whimsy of a lively baker's dozen of Mother Goose characters, including the three blind mice, Little Bo Peep, Jack and Jill, and the three-legged goose.

Asking the audience to put their trust in a team of drugged up, delusional and demented doctors and nurses, VISITING HOURS is an intriguing immersive theatre experience.

On Sunday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m., the Schimmel Center presents a musical tour of Ireland through a performance by two of Ireland's leading traditional ensembles, Dan and Goitse. The concert culminates in a collaborative performance featuring both groups playing together for the first time in the United States, creating an Irish big band experience, just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-nominated singer and actress Vanessa Williams will join Emmy winner and Grammy and Tony-nominated arranger and composer, music producer/director, and singer/songwriter Rob Mathes for his return to the Schimmel Center on Sunday, December 17 at 3:00 p.m.

On Today, October 13 and Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. the Schimmel Center presents two evenings paying tribute to the iconic club The Bottom Line.

Schimmel Center celebrates Halloween with two screenings of popular Disney movies on Saturday, October 28. At 3:00 p.m., sing along with a screening of the hit movie Frozen. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., kids and kids at heart will get to meet and greet and have their photo taken with Elsa and Anna in the Schimmel Center lobby, and participate in games and coloring activities. Halloween costumes are encouraged.

The Schimmel Center presents American Dance Spectacular! on Saturday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m., exploring the history of American popular dance throughout the 20th century, including the Charleston, Lindy hop, jitterbug, twist, voguing, and more. The performance is directed, co-written and created by Daniel C. Levine (Broadway's Les Mis rables, Chicago, and Mamma Mia!) with choreography by Al Blackstone (Fox's So You Think You Can Dance), music direction by Bryan Perri (Broadway's Wicked and Next to Normal), and book by Susan Batten (Lifetime's Showing Roots) together with six Broadway dancers backed by three vocalists and a live band.

On Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. the Schimmel Center presents two evenings paying tribute to the iconic club The Bottom Line.

Schimmel Center opens its 2017-18 season presenting Durham, North Carolina-based Gaspard & Dancers in five works on Saturday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. The uplifting program features four New York premieres: Pothos, exploring the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat, including his relationship with his parents, lovers, and his art; Portrait, inspired by Basquiat's colorful and busy paintings; In-Side a Song; and Forbidden; in addition to Tota Pulchra Es (You Are All Beautiful), celebrating the human spirit.
