Met Museum and SFMOMA Debut Major William Kentridge Installation in NYC Today

Marking a major collaboration between two leading U.S. museums, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) announced today the joint acquisition of South African artist William Kentridge's major multimedia installation The Refusal of Time (2012).

Ridgefield Playhouse to Broadcast THE NOSE, FRANKENSTEIN & THE HABIT OF THE ART in HD

Thanks to the Live in HD series, the best of British theatre and The New York Metropolitan opera are coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse. The Met's inventive production of Shostakovich's The Nose will fill the Playhouse on Monday, October 28. Appropriately for Halloween, Frankenstein stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller on Thursday, October 31. Alan Bennett's The Habit of Art is center stage on Wednesday, November 20. These performances start at 6:30 p.m. and include behind-the-scenes tours and commentary by some of the genres' most revered stars. For dinner-and-a-show, Bernard's (22 West Lane, Ridgefield) is offering a special $45 prix-fixe menu, or a free glass of wine with dinner when tickets for Frankenstein and The Habit of Art are presented; reservations suggested beginning at 5 p.m.These events are underwritten by Jeanne Cook, Anita and Nicholas Donofrio, Liz and Steven Goldstone, Marilyn and Joe Kreitz, Joanne and John Patrick, Sabina and Walter Slavin, Taylor Zemo Foundation and The Ridgefield Press with support from Starbucks and Whistle Stop Bakery (products available in the lobby) and media sponsor WSHU.

Acclaimed artist William Kentridge is known for his surreal animated films, works of art that always include a strong political dimension. He turned out be the perfect director for Metropolitan Opera production of Dmitri Shostakovich's surreal, political opera, The Nose.

Ridgefield Playhouse Presents Othello 10/5; Full Oct. Lineup Announced

New York's the Met and London's National Theatre bring the best of their performances Live in HD to The Ridgefield Playhouse this fall. Diva Anna Netrebko stars with Mariusz Kwiecien in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin on Saturday, October 5, at 12:55 p.m. Shakespeare's Othello will star Tom Robertson and Rory Kinnear on Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. William Kentridge storms the Met in Shostakovich's The Nose on Monday, October 28, at 6:30 p.m.

Metropolitan Opera to Open 2013-14 Season with Tchaikovsky's EUGENE ONEGIN, 9/23

The Metropolitan Opera will open its 2013-14 season on September 23 at 6:30 p.m. with a new production of Tchaikovsky's romantic tragedy Eugene Onegin, directed by Deborah Warner in her Met debut. Valery Gergiev returns to the Met for the first time since 2010 to conduct the performance, which will feature Anna Netrebko-the first soprano in Met history to star in three consecutive opening night performances-in her first company performances as the naive heroine Tatiana, whose infatuation with the title character has tragic repercussions. Mariusz Kwiecien brings his acclaimed interpretation of Onegin to the Met for the first time, opposite Piotr Beczala, who reprises his celebrated portrayal of Lenski. Oksana Volkova sings the role of Tatiana's sister, Olga, and Alexei Tanovitski sings Prince Gremin, the older man who offers Tatiana security. This cast sings eight performances of the opera through October 19, with the October 5 matinee performance transmitted live to more than 1,900 movie theaters in 64 countries around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series. Due to an unexpected surgical procedure, Warner was unable to travel to the Met to stage Eugene Onegin, which is being directed here by her longtime collaborator Fiona Shaw.

Galerie Lelong Opens Nalini Malani's IN SEARCH OF VANISHED BLOOD Today

Nalini Malani's immersive video/shadow play, In Search of Vanished Blood, will premiere in New York today, September 6, 2013. This large-scale multi-media work was a highlight of dOCUMENTA 13 held in Kassel, Germany during the summer of 2012. Malani, widely considered the pioneer of video art in India, continues themes explored throughout her illustrious career: violence, the feminine, and the politics of national identity. The artist will be present for the opening which will be held tonight, September 6 from 6-8pm.

The Met: Live in HD 2013-14 Season to Kick Off 10/5 with EUGENE ONEGIN

The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera's award-winning series of live transmissions to movie theaters, will reach its widest-ever global audience in its eighth season, which begins on October 5 with a new production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. Met Music Director James Levine makes his highly-anticipated return to the screen with Verdi's Falstaff on December 14 and the first Live in HD performance of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte on April 26. The Live in HD series, the world's largest provider of alternative content, reaches more than 1,900 theaters in 64 countries, and offers subtitles in nine languages, including Swedish for the first time this season. To accommodate audience demand in Europe, more than 85 cinemas have been added to the HD network in Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

MY LIFE RUINED BY SEX to be Displayed at the Museum of Sex, 4/4

From rising art star to recluse, the life and work of self-taught printmaker and sculptor William Kent in many respects embodied the title of his semi-autobiographical 1964 print, "My Life Ruined By Sex." This exhibition, baring the same title, explores William Kent's (1919-2012) calamitous life through his art and personal ephemera, highlighting his skill and creativity as well as the paradoxes that drove him, bringing his erotically charged work back to New York City for the first time in nearly fifty years.
