Town Hall Theater to Broadcast Met Opera's THE NOSE, 10/26
Acclaimed artist William Kentridge is known for his surreal animated films, works of art that always include a strong political dimension. He turned out be the perfect director for Metropolitan Opera production of Dmitri Shostakovich's surreal, political opera, The Nose.
Kentridge's innovative production dazzled opera and art lovers alike in its sold-out inaugural run in 2010. Now this brilliant staging, with astounding visual projections and brilliant visual touches, will be shown live on the big screen at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Saturday, October 26.
Paolo Szot stars as the bureaucrat in search of his missing nose.
The New York Times raved about the production. "Musically you are not likely to hear a more insightful, ornery and, when appropriate, achingly poignant account of Shostakovich's still-shocking score." Great praise went Kentridge's visually stunning staging, and to Szot, who recently had a great success starring in South Pacific at Lincoln Center. The Times called it a "breakthrough performance".
The Nose will be broadcast live at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Saturday, October 26, at 1 pm. Tickets are $24/$10 students, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater,org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon-5 pm), or at the door.
