More than 60 nominations in over two dozen categories of outstanding actors, directors, designers, choreographers, musicians, and productions were announced today by the Boston Theater Critics Association (BTCA) for the 39th Elliot Norton Awards.

Congo Square Theatre Company, GRAY, and Theaster Gates's Rebuild Foundation are proud to announce that the Chicago Premiere of What to Send Up When It Goes Down, by award-winning playwright Aleshea Harris, has been extended by popular demand with three additional performances at the Rebuild Foundation's Stony Island Arts Bank.

The Tony Award- winning Trinity Repertory Company has announced the company’s 59th season. The 2022-23 Season, which includes a five-show subscription series and an annual reimagining of A Christmas Carol, begins in September and concludes in June.   

MCC Theater has announced the complete casting for the World Premiere production of soft by Donja R. Love (one in two). Directed by Whitney White (On Sugarland), soft will begin previews on Thursday May 12, 2022 in the Susan & Ronald Frankel Theater at The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space (511 W 52nd Street New York, NY 10019).

Just last night, New York Theatre Workshop celebrated its NYTW 2022 Gala, honoring Artistic Director James C. Nicola, who will depart NYTW after 34 years on June 30, 2022. 

The 2022 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to U.K. playwright Benedict Lombe for her debut play Lava. In a special presentation at Shakespeare's Globe in London, the Blackburn Prize judges presented Lombe with a cash prize of $25,000, and a signed limited-edition print by renowned artist Willem de Kooning, created especially for the Prize. 

Nominations for the 37th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were announced today by theatre veterans Lilli Cooper and Lea DeLaria, stars of Broadway’s POTUS. With COVID safety in mind, rather than having one host and multiple presenters, this year the Awards will be handed out by a few Host/Presenter pairs on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at NYU Skirball beginning at 7:00pm EST. The Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League and Lucille Lortel Theatre, with additional support provided by TDF.

How does an entire community manage to express its anger and sorrow, and find a way to come together to heal? The answer can be found in Aleshea Harris’s What to Send Up When It Goes Down. This highly unique piece will begin a 4-week regional premiere run on Thursday, April 14 in the Evelyn Wheeler Swenson Theatre at Stage West.

MCC Theater announced that after two years of digital performances, UNCENSORED will return to in-person performances at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space in the Susan and Ronald Frankel Theater on April 22-24, 2022. 

Previously titled Here She Is, Boys, Which Way to the Stage will begin previews in the Newman Mills Theater at MCC Theater (511 W 52nd Street New York, NY 10019) on Thursday April 14 and open on Tuesday May 10 for a limited engagement through May 22, 2022.

MCC Theater (Bob LuPone, Bernie Telsey, Will Cantler, Co-Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) announced today that Oscar and Grammy Award-winning music and culture journalist Cameron Crowe (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Almost Famous) will moderate Behind the Lyrics, a special one-night event that will take a deep dive in to the songwriting process for Space Dogs. 

New York Theatre Workshop just celebrated opening night of On Sugarland by Obie Award winner Aleshea Harris (Is God Is, What to Send Up When It Goes Down).

MCC Theater announced today that Space Dogs, a new musical written by and starring Van Hughes (Burn All Night) and Nick Blaemire (Glory Days) has been extended for a second time. Directed by Ellie Heyman (amfAR’s Angels in America), Space Dogs will now play through Sunday March 20, 2022 at MCC Theater (511 W 52nd Street New York, NY 10019).

New York Theatre Workshop  announced today that due to positive COVID tests in the company, all performances of On Sugarland by Obie Award winner Aleshea Harris (Is God Is, What to Send Up When It Goes Down) have been cancelled through Sunday February 20, 2022. Performances will resume Tuesday February 22.

The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize today announces 10 Finalists for its prestigious playwriting award, the oldest and largest prize awarded to women+ playwrights - now in its 44th year .
