Cast Announced for Raven Theatre's RED VELVET

Michael Menendian, Producing Artistic Director of Raven Theatre, has announced casting for the company's upcoming production of Red Velvet, by Lolita Chakrabarti.

James Vincent Meredith, Henry Godinez and Susan Padveen to Headline RED VELVET Post-Show Discussions

Three of Chicago's leading theater artists - actor James Vincent Meredith, and director/educators Henry Godinez of Northwestern University and Susan Padveen of Columbia College will appear following performances of the play detailing the story of Ira Aldridge, who in 1833 became the first black actor to play Othello on a London stage. The three each have a unique and personal connection to the play's themes.

THE PLAY ABOUT MY DAD, by Boo Killebrew, which opened at New York's 59E59 Theatres in June 2011, tells of the author's father, a doctor in Gulfport, Mississippi who stayed behind to take care of patients as Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005. The play will be performed in Raven's intimate West Stage space. The production officially opens tonight, October 27, and runs through November 28, 2015. Raven Theatre to Present THE PLAY ABOUT MY DAD

The Play About My Dad by Boo Killebrew, which opened at New York's 595 E 59 Theatres in June 2011, tells of the author's father, a doctor in Gulfport, Mississippi who stayed behind to take care of patients as the storm hit in August 2005. New Orleans, as the largest city to be hit by the storm, appropriately received most of the media attention, but Katrina's effects on the Gulf Coast were devastating. Many coastal towns were destroyed, 235 people were killed and more than one million Mississippians were affected.

Jackalope's 5th Annual Living Newspapers Festival to Run 8/20-24

Jackalope Theatre Company presents the 5th Annual Living Newspapers Festival. In homage to the 1930's Living Newspapers of the Federal Theatre Project, Jackalope has assembled an exciting group of Chicago playwrights, directors, and actors to dramatize stories ripped from recent newspaper headlines. Presented for a One-Weekend limited engagement at The Frontier, 1106 W. Thorndale Ave, the show will run August 20-24, today - Sunday at 8:00pm. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved via jackalopetheatre.org.

Lifeline Theatre's KidSeries Presents New Musical Adaptation January - February 2011

Lifeline Theatre's KidSeries presents a musical adaptation of SOMEBODY LOVES YOU, MR. HATCH, based on the popular children's book by Eileen Spinelli, illustrated by Paul Yalowitz (©1991 by Eileen Spinelli, Simon & Schuster, Inc.). The production is adapted by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Frances Limoncelli, music and lyrics by George Howe, and directed by Ann Boyd. Dull and predictable Mr. Hatch had always lived an isolated life until one Valentine's Day, when an unexpected delivery transforms the town's most unsociable hermit into everyone's favorite friend. Share in a heartwarming tale of companionship and acceptance, as Mr. Hatch's neighbors get to know the mysterious man next door. This production is appropriate for children ages five and up, and runs approximately one hour with no intermission. The book and cast recording CDs will be on sale in the lobby.

After 17 years, Tony n' Tina are heading on their honeymoon. Route 66 Theatre Company will present the Chicago premiere of HIGH FIDELITY in its first major production since its Broadway run in 2006. The show started previews August 8, 2009; opened Monday, August 17 at 7 p.m.; and will run through October 11, 2009 at the Tony n' Tina's Wedding space at Pipers Alley Theater.
