The Friends of Florence Foundation has underwritten the restoration of the Putto with a Dolphin (1470?c.1475) a statue by Andrea del Verrocchio, for the exhibition Verrocchio, Master of Leonardo on view March 9?July 14, 2019 in Palazzo Strozzi. The presentation will also have a special section in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Verrocchio's influential practice as an artist, goldsmith, and architect led him to develop a studio renowned for training artists including Leonardo da Vinci. The statue that Lorenzo the Magnificent commissioned for the Medici family villa at Careggi and was later moved to Palazzo Vecchio where it is held today, will be among Verrocchio's masterpieces displayed in the exhibition.

Civic Theatre brings Harper Lee's classic, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD to the stage February 8-23, 2019. Oscar-qualifying New York Int'l Children's Film Festival announced the complete short film lineup for its 2019 event, which runs February 22-March 17 at theaters throughout New York: IFC Center, Scandinavia House, Quad Cinemas, SVA Theatre, Cinépolis Chelsea, Alamo Drafthouse and the Museum of the Moving Image. Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice-President, Programs) announced today a second extension for the World Premiere of Behind the Sheet, written by Charly Evon Simpson (Jump) and directed by Colette Robert (Mary's Wedding). Part of the EST/Sloan Science & Technology Project (Graeme Gillis, Program Director; Linsay Firman, Associate Director), Behind the Sheet began previews at EST's Curt Dempster Theatre (549 W. 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019) on January 9, 2019, and opened January 17. Originally set to close on February 3, the play will now run through February 17, 2019.
Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company serving the Connecticut Shoreline, announced that its 2019 mainstage season will include: Carlisle Floyd's opera Of Mice and Men, based on the John Steinbeck classic, in May/June; the Stephen Sondheim fairy tale musical Into the Woods in July; and, for Halloween, Engelbert Humperdinck's enchanted opera Hansel and Gretel in October. Today, the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) kicks-off its 2nd Annual TRUE Love contest that honors family and caregivers for their tireless work in caring for their loved ones living with prostate cancer. TRUE is a tribute to the unsung heroes – whether they are spouses, partners, nurses, doctors, siblings, children or friends. The PCF will be accepting TRUE Love stories from all perspectives that reflect love, honor and care for prostate cancer patients throughout the month of February, when love is traditionally celebrated. The most inspirational story will be announced by the PCF on February 28th via social media, and the winner will receive a special care package from award-winning actress Kristen Bell.
Based on George A. Romero's unparalleled 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, the first ever UK stage adaptation and the only officially authorised production will come to life at Pleasance, London from 9 April to 19 May 2019. Directed by Benji Sperring (The Toxic Avenger: The Musical; Shock Treatment, Valley Of Song), Night of the Living Dead Live will pay homage to the cult monochrome classic, skirting the line between the horrific and the hysterical as it resurrects the original zombie masterpiece. Claire Marie Mannle inhabits the role - rarely performed by a female protagonist - of a young person determined to list every brilliant thing about life in an attempt to ward off her mother's suicidal tendencies.
