BWW REVIEW: Broken Box Mime Theater Explores The Fragility of Contemporary Life in SKIN

Nearly two years after an impressive debut at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theater at A.R.T, Broken Box Mime Theater is back with SKIN, a collection of fifteen short pieces which alternate between the playful and the political. In Reverse (which dazzled this reviewer), consisted of just ten pieces. These physical storytellers, who come from diverse performing arts backgrounds (none of which, remarkably, include dance) have a palpable bond, perhaps because they communicate outside the sphere of language. Acting depends upon listening, but in mime, the 'listening' takes a more visceral and amorphous form. This accounts, I think, for the intimacy one witnesses in BXBR. It's easy for mime to miss the mark, at least if one associates meaning with hitting one's marks. These performers must trust each other to help make each action intelligible. Meaning itself, one might say, is collaborative. There is much to admire in Skin, and under Becky Baumwoll's direction, the performers continue to amaze with their ability to convey such depth and precision of feeling with recourse only to facial expressions and body language.

CATSKILLS ON BROADWAY Brings Good Old-Fashioned Comedy And Big Laughs To The McCallum

The McCallum Theatre presents Catskills on Broadway on Friday, February 22, at 8:00pm. The Catskills Mountains of New York, the cradle of American humor, launched the careers of many of our greatest comics. In this new version of the 1991 Broadway hit, Freddie Roman, Sarge, and Mark Schiff will have you laughing at good old-fashioned comedy that brings back the golden years of the Catskills. Freddie Roman, creator and star of Catskills on Broadway, adopted the attitude that if Broadway couldn't come to the mountains, he would take the mountains to Broadway. Catskills on Broadway was a new format for the Broadway community and the production earned Freddie acclaim and a stint on the Tony Awards broadcast.

Bob Mould Releases LOST FAITH, Announces JCRT Clothing Collaboration

In only one week, Bob Mould returns with an entirely new catalogue of music on his full-length album Sunshine Rock, available February 8 via Merge Records. The record features the recently released tracks 'What Do You Want Me To Do' and title-track 'Sunshine Rock'. Today, Mould shares his latest single 'Lost Faith'; a socially conscious song that sheds light on the mental friction caused from a mixture of facts, fiction, and biased opinions dispersed in the media. 'Lost Faith' premiered yesterday on NPR. The visual for the new music plots a tale of such confusion with Mould as the centerpiece in a high-end music video for what ends up as an ultimately catchy, uplifting pop song.

The Cleverlys Bring A New Blue To Bluegrass

Arden, North Carolina (January 29, 2019) - From the deep Ozark hollows of Cane Spur, Arkansas, The Cleverlys have been plucked from obscurity and landed in the studio to produce their first national label release, Blue, available March 22 from Mountain Home Music Company. With songs like Beyonce's 'Irreplaceable,' LMFAO's 'Party Rock Anthem,' Justin Bieber's 'Baby' and The Zombies' 'She's Not (Ain't) There,' this music would be at the edge of being full camp if it weren't for the obvious vocal talent and stellar picking that holds up to any of today's progressive acoustic bands.
