Tonya & Nancy: The Rock Opera gets its NY premiere as it kicks-off the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) this July. Tonya & Nancy: The Rock Opera has a concept, book and lyrics by Elizabeth Searle, music by Michael Teoli, and will be directed by David Alpert (If/ Then), with musical direction by Henry Aronson (Rock of Ages), and choreography by Marc Kimelman (A Bronx Tale). If you are of a certain age, you undoubtedly spent part of your Friday nights casting spells with Sabrina the Teenage Witch, her aunts Hilda and Zelda, their talking cat Salem, and Sabrina's arch-rival Libby. Just yesterday, Justin Guarini hosted The New York Musical Theatre Festival's Annual Press Conference at Urbo (11 Times Square, New York, NY 10036). As a part of the special presentation, cast members from Acappella, Claudio Quest, Deep Love: A Ghostly Rock Opera, Manuel versus the Statue of Liberty, The Calico Buffalo and Tonya & Nancy: The Rock Opera performed excerpts from the productions. The Broadway Sings concert series comes to 54 Below for its first 'Best Of Broadway Sings' concert, which will feature showstoppers from the series' previous seven concerts. Some of Broadway's brightest, current talents will sing completely new arrangements of the hits of seven pop superstars: Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, Justin Timberlake, and P!NK. Over 15 Broadway performers will be accompanied by an 8-piece jazz band playing unique, original orchestrations created for the acclaimed series.
