American Players Theatre Announces 2013 Season

American Players Theatre (APT) announces its 2013 Season, which runs June 8 to October 20, 2013, and includes the first indoor Shakespeare production of the company's history: an intimate adaptation of Antony and Cleopatra by heralded off-Broadway actor and playwright James DeVita and director Kate Buckley, presented in the 200-seat Touchstone Theatre. DeVita, one of APT's Core Company members, recently completed a critically acclaimed run of his solo show In Acting Shakespeare at the Pearl Theater in New York.

ULYSSES DREAMS to Premiere at Touchstone Theatre, 4/13

This April, Touchstone Theatre premiers an original work entitled Ulysses Dreams: an exploration of origin and destiny on the South Bethlehem Greenway. Based on the classical text of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, the play runs April 13-21 and features original music and poetic text by Jp Jordan and Christopher Shorr, as well as choreography created by Bill George, Gus Ripa, and the Touchstone creative family.

Lookingglass Theatre to Stage STILL ALICE World Premiere, 4/10-5/19

Continuing its 25th Anniversary Season, Lookingglass Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Still Alice, adapted and directed by Ensemble Member Christine Mary Dunford, based on the novel by Lisa Genova. The production runs April 10 - May 19, 2013 at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson. The Press Opening is Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.

Pontine Theatre Welcomes William George in Solo Adaptation of WALDEN, Now thru 3/10

Pontine Theatre presents William George in his solo adaptation of Henry David Thoreau's Walden. Mr. George is a founder of Bethlehem PA's Touchstone Theatre. Published in 1854, Thoreau's literary classic is an elegantly written record of his experiment in simple living that has engaged readers and thinkers for more than a century.

Short Story Theatre Performs at Laughing Chameleon, 3/5

Short Story Theatre, a story-telling troupe of local writers, will present an evening of storytelling on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Laughing Chameleon, 1830 Tower Drive, in Glenview in the Glen.

Touchstone Theatre to Reinterpret Classical Myth in ULYSSES DREAMS, 4/13-21

This winter, Touchstone Theatre rehearses for its spring production of a new adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey. The play, entitled Ulysses Dreams, will perform April 13-21 and features original music and poetic text by Touchstone Artistic Director Jp Jordan and Ensemble Associate Christopher Shorr.

Touchstone Theatre Presents FRESH VOICES: REEVOLUTION, 2/22 & 23

Touchstone Theatre presents Fresh Voices: ReEvolution, two evenings of original theatre performed, directed, and devised by the 2012-2013 Apprentice Class, on February 22 and 23, 2013 at 8pm. Fresh Voices is an annual showcase created by Touchstone Apprentices featuring original solo and ensemble works. This year, Kathryn Krull, Kyle Lewis, Kayla Prestel, and Gary Warren share their unique artistic visions, push boundaries, and break the rules of what it means to 'make theater.'

Touchstone Theatre’s Christmas City Follies Now in Thirteenth Year, 11/29-12/22

Touchstone Theatre will present Christmas City Follies XIII, the thirteenth iteration of the high-spirited vaudevillian variety show inspired by the "Christmas City" of Bethlehem and the holiday season. Christmas City Follies XIII will run for four weekends, from November 29 through December 22.

National New Play Network Announces 33rd Rolling World Premiere: MANNING UP by Sean Christopher Lewis

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 33rd Rolling World Premiere: Sean Christopher Lewis' Manning Up will receive three productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2012/13 season, the Network's 15th. Manning Up will begin its Rolling World Premiere at Riverside Theatre (Iowa City, IA, October 12 - 28, 2012), followed by performances at Salt Lake Acting Company (Salt Lake City, UT, November 7 - December 9, 2012) and Actors' Summit (Akron, OH, May 16 - June 2, 2013). Lewis - a former NNPN Playwright-in-Residence - kicks off the festivities by directing the Riverside production.

AUTUMN PORTRAITS, WALDEN, and More Featured in Pontine Theatre's 2012-13 Season

Pontine Theatre announces its 35th performance season at the West End Studio Theatre in Portsmouth NH. Two things unite the wide range of work presented in Pontine Theatre's annual performance series: all use expression through movement as a primary dramatic vehicle and all are original works or adaptations created by the artists who perform them. This season the series features five productions: two by Pontine and three by invited guest artists. Pontine's West End Studio Theatre is located at 959 Islington Street in Portsmouth, NH. Performances are Fridays & Saturdays at 4pm & at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. Season subscriptions are $90 ($10 discount for students & seniors). Additionally, APT will present a new Shakespearience festival, featuring preeminent Shakespeare scholars and special events from August 24-26, 2012.

Today, May 19, 2012, Touchstone Theatre will present the seventh annual Young Playwrights' Festival, a showcase of original one-act plays written by students ages 8-15 and brought to life by the Touchstone Ensemble, invited guest directors, and professional and community actors from across the Lehigh Valley. The Young Playwrights' Festival will take place in Zoellner Arts Center's Baker Hall at 7pm, followed by the Gala Dessert Reception & Live/Silent Auction Fundraiser.

Touchstone Theatre Receives NEA Art Works Grant to Support The Young Playwrights Lab

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced today that Touchstone Theatre is one of 788 not-for-profit national, regional, state, and local organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Touchstone Theatre is recommended for a $20,000.00 grant to support the art educational components of the Young Playwrights Lab. The 788 Art Works grants total $24.81 million and support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.

Touchstone Theatre Presents A RESTING PLACE, 4/13-15

Touchstone Theatre presents A RESTING PLACE, a new community-based play drawn from stories of Bethlehem citizens who lived during the Civil War. This outdoor theatrical experience features a cast of over a hundred performers and will be presented five times in five different outdoor venues around Bethlehem over the course of three days. There will also be auxiliary events including panel discussions and a guest lecturer following each performance.
