2019 Shakespeare Festival St. Louis Presents LOVE'S LABORS LOST

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis announced today that "Love's Labors Lost" will be the 2019 season main stage production at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. A comedic masterpiece by William Shakespeare, the production is scheduled May 31 through June 23; preview nights are set for May 29-30.

Three emerging playwrights - two from St. Louis and one from Chicago - have been selected to participate in a new initiative developed by Shakespeare Festival St. Louis called the Confluence Regional Writers Project. As part of the program, the festival has also selected St. Louisan Carter Lewis, a two-time nominee for the American Theatre Critics Award, as the Festival's 2019 Playwriting Fellow.

Waterwell announced today that Obie Award-winning director Lee Sunday Evans has been named its new Artistic Director following an extensive national search. Evans is both a prominent director, with work produced at important venues including The Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, BAM, Lincoln Center Theater, the Humana Festival, and The Play Company, and a long-time Waterwell collaborator, beginning as a teacher, director, and mentor of young artists in the Waterwell Drama Program.

The Muse Project gives women performers the time, space, and opportunity to experiment with and explore their fantasy projects. Musings will showcase the exciting, fresh, paradigm-shifting storytelling that 5 of New York's leading stage actresses have developed through intensive workshops, called Mini Muses. The week will culminate in a party on October 19th, the 'Mini Gala' - a wine and cheese event to celebrate the week's presentations; and 'Tea Time,' a one-of-a-kind Muse pilot program, where a veteran stage actress discusses her experiences building her career. Actress Florencia Lozano is set to partake as the Tea Time guest.

Ben Nordstrom and Kari Ely will play opposite one another in "Into the Breeches!," the headlining production of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' new program titled, In the Works, set for Oct. 28 through Nov. 24, at the Grandel Theatre. Written by George Brant and directed by Nancy Bell, the month-long, ticketed production is the culmination of the Festival's 2018 season.

Waterwell (Tom Ridgely, Artistic Director; Arian Moayed, Producer) announced today that Co-Founder and Artistic Director Tom Ridgely will be stepping down next month to assume artistic and executive leadership of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis as Executive Producer. Following his departure, he will join the Waterwell Board of Directors. Tony Award nominee Arian Moayed, Co-Founder and Producer of Waterwell, will serve as Interim Artistic Director while the board conducts a national search for a successor.

It would probably take a lifetime to do this, not to mention the fact that some of the more obscure plays are rarely performed. However, if someone wanted to get a flavor for the Bard's entire body of work, presented in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, they need not go any further than Playhouse on Park in West Hartford to catch the final production of their current season - THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED.)

JULIUS CAESAR, Set at All-Girls High School, Hits NYC Tonight

Pocket Universe presents a new, all-female production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, starring Alyssa May Gold (Arcadia on Broadway, Middle of the Night) as Brutus, Dea Julien (West Side Story 1st Nat'l Tour, Blueprint Specials) as Julius Caesar, Violeta Picayo (BEDLAM's Sense & Sensibility, RadioBABEL) as Mark Antony, Madeline Wolf (Fun Home on Broadway, Normativity) as Cassius, Miranda Cornell (Alter Ego, #Blessed) as Casca, and Amie Tedesco (Lemon Sky, Any Day Now) as Lucius. All other roles will be played by members of the company. The production will run through July 8, 2017 at the Access Theater Gallery Space. Opening night is tonight, June 23.
