The nationally-recognized Shakespeare in the Streets program will highlight the stories of not just one community, but two - Normandy, Missouri and Brussels, Illinois -- for Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' first urban-rural exchange Sept. 12-14. The performances will be inspired by the Bard's play, "As You Like It."

Veteran performer Philip Hernandez, the only actor in Broadway history to play both Valjean and Javert in "Les Miserables," will headline the 2019 Shakespeare Festival St. Louis production of "Love's Labors Lost," May 31 through June 23, at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. Preview performances are scheduled May 29-30. Performances are held nightly, excluding Mondays, and begin at 8 p.m.

Power, ambition, courage, and fate vs. free will - issues people have grappled with no matter the culture or century - are just a few of the themes students will learn a bit more of as part of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' award-winning Education Tour, now through April 14. The tour includes more than 100 performances and workshops conducted at 50 schools throughout the bi-state area and rural Missouri.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis announced today that "Love's Labors Lost" will be the 2019 season main stage production at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. A comedic masterpiece by William Shakespeare, the production is scheduled May 31 through June 23; preview nights are set for May 29-30.

Three emerging playwrights - two from St. Louis and one from Chicago - have been selected to participate in a new initiative developed by Shakespeare Festival St. Louis called the Confluence Regional Writers Project. Waterwell announced today that Obie Award-winning director Lee Sunday Evans has been named its new Artistic Director following an extensive national search. Evans is both a prominent director, with work produced at important venues including The Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, BAM, Lincoln Center Theater, the Humana Festival, and The Play Company, and a long-time Waterwell collaborator, beginning as a teacher, director, and mentor of young artists in the Waterwell Drama Program.

Jennifer Wintzer and Linda Schulte have been promoted to senior leadership positions at Shakespeare Festival St. Louis, it was announced today by Executive Producer Tom Ridgely. Wintzer will serve as associate artistic director and Schulte as director of external affairs.

Ben Nordstrom and Kari Ely will play opposite one another in "Into the Breeches!," the headlining production of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' new program titled, In the Works, set for Oct. 28 through Nov. 24, at the Grandel Theatre. Written by George Brant and directed by Nancy Bell, the month-long, ticketed production is the culmination of the Festival's 2018 season.
