The Harold Clurman Lab Theater is proud to announce its next production, Road to Nirvana, by Arthur Kopit. Kopit's hilarious and irreverent comedy asks how far people will go in pursuit of fame and fortune. The play runs fromSeptember 15 to October 15, 2016. Managing Artistic Director Don K. Williams will direct. Williams recently directed the Harold Clurman Lab Theater's Ovation-nominated productions of Lebensraum and Long Way Go Down.
The Stella Adler Studio of Acting hosted the 11th Annual Stella by Starlight Benefit Gala last night at The Prince George Ballroom in New York City. The event honored actor Jeff Daniels, the late director Nancy Malone, real estate developer Sharif El-Gamal and New York City Department of Correction Deputy Commissioner of Youthful Offender and Young Adult Programming Winette Jackson.
As part of the National Endowment for the Arts funding for local arts projects and partnerships, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting has been awarded an Art Works award of $18,000 to support their work with inmates at Rikers Island Correctional Facility. The Art Works category supports the creation of work and presentation of both new and existing work, lifelong learning in the arts, and public engagement with the arts through 13 arts disciplines or fields.

In partnership with the University of Utah School of Medicine's Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities, UtahPresents brings the powerful one-man play Mercy Killers to the Eccles Auditorium at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Mercy Killers, written and performed by Michael Milligan and directed by Tom Oppenheim, will be performed on Friday, November 6 at 7:00 PM, with a talkback following the performance. The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, is now accepting new play submissions. In the eighth annual search for a resident playwright, the division is calling for new dramatic works written exclusively by playwrights of color. The division is also seeking ensemble plays for casts of seven to ten female roles or gender neutral roles; playwrights of all ethnicities are welcome to apply with an ensemble play.

Previous residents include Dennis Staroselsky, Halley Feiffer, Mia Chung, Anton Dudley, Christina Gorman, Zayd Dohrn, and Peter Nickowitz. Over two hundred writers submitted applications and full-length plays for consideration in the annual merit-based search.
