Directed by Mark Waldrop, with choreography by Vince Pesce, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum will run at Paper Mill Playhouse's Millburn theater from March 16 through April 10, 2011. Paul Vogt (Pseudolus) made his Broadway debut as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray and he replaced Harvey Fierstein in the Las Vegas production. Films include Garry Marshall's Valentines Day and Princess Diaries 2. Audiences know Paul from 'MADtv.' This is Paul's first Paper Mill Playhouse experience.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was selected by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts as part of the American Masterpieces Series in New Jersey. Featuring music by eight-time Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Sister Act, The Little Mermaid), lyrics by Jack Feldman and a new book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), Newsies is adapted for the stage from the live-action Disney feature film musical. The production will be directed at Paper Mill by Tony® nominee Jeff Calhoun (The Will Rogers Follies, Grey Gardens).

From December 1, 2010, through January 17, 2011, JerseyArts.com invited the public to vote for their favorite nonprofit arts groups in its third annual People's Choice Awards. The categories ranged from theater and performing arts centers, to museums and galleries, to symphonies and dance companies (along with many more -- there were 15 in all). Many organizations rallied their audiences to vote, and more than 6,200 people cast their ballot in this year's contest and remarkably, nearly one-third of all votes cast were for Paper Mill Playhouse. The winners were announced today online at JerseyArts.com and via email to all the voters. Recipients will formally receive their awards in a ceremony at The Governor's Conference on Tourism, held March 23-25, 2011 in Atlantic City, NJ.

According to Millburn-Short Hills Patch, after several years of a financial slump, New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse's buget is currently on track for an end of year surplus. During a committee meeting on Tuseday, December 21, managing director Todd Schmidt confirmed that with three shows left for the season, attendance has already reached 87 percent of last year's.
