BWW Interview: Will Holbrook Does Two Plays This Summer

Actor Will Holbrook made a big splash as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet when he first arrived in Los Angeles in 2016 at the Archway Theatre Co. The grandson of Hal Holbrook, Will is ambitious with two plays scheduled to perform this summer and the presentation of his new production company dedicated to film. In our conversation, Will talks with candor and enthusiasm about his plans for this summer and beyond.

BWW Review: OUR TOWN, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

The first production for Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's summer 2019 season is a revival of Thornton Wilder's 1938 play, Our Town. It's a show that is constantly being revived, particularly popular in the United States where the play is set. It was last on the London stage at the Almeida in 2014 in a production directed by David Cromer.

Based on Thornton Wilder's 1954 play titled The Matchmaker, Hello, Dolly! follows famed New York City matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi as receives her toughest challenge yet. She must travel to Yonkers to find a suitable match for the miserly 'well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire' Horace Vandergelder. She successfully matches many others in the city, including Horace's niece and his two young clerks, but everything seems to go wrong when it comes to matching Horace.

Staples Players Presents OUR TOWN

It could be Grover's Corner, New Hampshire, or it could be Westport, Connecticut. Whether you've never seen Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic or you've seen it many times, Staples Players will take you on a new stroll through Any Town, USA, and right into the heart of what it means to be human. David Roth (SHS '84) and Kerry Long (SHS '97) co-direct Our Town, which will run in the Black Box Theatre at Staples High School from May 23 to May 26.

Casting Announced For CABARET At San Francisco Playhouse

San Francisco Playhouse announced casting for Cabaret, the Tony Award-winning musical that will close the company's 2018/19 Season. Susi Damilano will direct, with music direction by Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer.

BWW Review: Wow! Wow! Wow, Fellas! Look at DOLLY Now, Fellas: She's Spectacular!

It only takes a moment to realize that composer/lyricist Jerry Herman, aided and abetted by book writer Michael Stewart (with an able assist from Thornton Wilder), knew exactly what he was doing when he created the classic Broadway musical Hello, Dolly!: put together a star vehicle for a quintessential theater diva, surround her with characters both irascible and lovable, then give them all a score that's delightfully hummable and danceable and a script that's appealingly daft, maybe even a little goofy.
