BWW Blog: The Importance of Reading a Play a Week

Hello everybody! I'm glad to be back writing to you all about another week and another topic! The program I am studying in here at Catholic University is part of the Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art. The Drama program is an all-encompassing major that includes studies in all areas of theatre. These areas include: script analysis, acting, directing, technical theatre, design, etc. One of the most rewarding parts of our Theatre Topics class, I believe, are the reading and discussion of a wide variety of plays.

Actors Co-op Extends ANNA KARENINA Through March 23rd

Actors Co-op extends its daring fresh take on Leo Tolstoy's ANNA KARENINA by Helen Edmundson, directed by Heather Chesley, due to popular demand and sold out houses. This imaginatively staged, swift- paced ANNA KARENINA is an upside-down telling of Leo Tolstoy's classic tale. A story wrapped in temptation, passion and moral conflict, this eight-person dramatic event is an examination of love, adultery and marriage.

BWW Review: OUR TOWN at The City Theatre Austin

It's a bit embarrassing to admit that a life-long theatre junkie like me had never seen OUR TOWN until last Saturday night. I have read it and loved it of course; I am familiar with the plot, characters, etc, but had never actually experienced this American treasure and I am so glad and grateful I got to see this production. Austin Theatre lovers have a special affinity for The City Theatre I think because it's a 'neighborhood' theatre. Andy Berkovsky and company treat you like family and instead of dropping in for coffee, we drop in for some quality art time.

Barrow Street Theatricals announced today the rotating cast of guest actors through the beginning of March for the American premiere of the Nassim Soleimanpour and Bush Theatre production of NASSIM by celebrated Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour (White Rabbit Red Rabbit), featuring direction by Omar Elerian. Joining the production will be:

ANNA KARENINA Adds Matinees Due To Popular Demand

Actors Co-op adds two matinees of this daring fresh take on Leo Tolstoy's ANNA KARENINA by Helen Edmundson, directed by Heather Chesley, due to popular demand and sold out houses. This imaginatively staged, swift- paced ANNA KARENINA is an upside-down telling of Leo Tolstoy's classic tale. A story wrapped in temptation, passion and moral conflict, this eight-person dramatic event is an examination of love, adultery and marriage.

BWW Review: Surviving the Triple Apocalypse: Funny, Faithful THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH at Park Square Theatre

Opening disclosure: I love this script! I think it's one of American theater's great treasures. It's remarkably timely despite being written in the 1940s. Penned by Thornton Wilder after OUR TOWN, it won the Pulitzer Prize in 1943. It's hugely inventive, theatrically bold rather than narrowly realistic, meta before meta was a thing, about truly big issues (e.g., the survival of the human race) and wickedly funny to boot. It should be noted that not everyone agrees, and there were some folks in the opening night audience in Saint Paul who left in the second intermission.

MTC Presents A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE

Steve Bastoni (Wentworth) and Daniela Farinacci (Glitch) will star as Eddie and Beatrice Carbone in Arthur Miller's tragic masterpiece A View from the Bridge alongside Marco Chiappi (The Father), Simon Maiden (Glitch), Zoe Terakes (A Doll's House, Part 2), Damian Walshe-Howling (Janet King) and newcomer Andrew Coshan, when it opens on Thursday 14 March at Southbank Theatre.

Actors Co-op Brings ANNA KARENINA To The Crossley Theatre
