'THE LEARS' to Open 13th Annual All Out Arts Fresh Fruit Festival

The LEARS: Fools of Fortune, a contemporary American version of Shakespeare's KING LEAR, will open the 13th annual ALL OUT ARTS Fresh Fruit Festival on Monday July 13th at 7:30pm at The Wild Project 195 East 3rd St at Ave B, festival headquarters.

World Premiere of SHESH YAK Begins at Rattlestick Next Month

Rattlestick Playwrights and LaiLou Productions have announced that the world premiere of Shesh Yak, written by Laith Nakli and directed by Bruce McCarty, will begin previews Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, west of Seventh Avenue South. The official opening night is set for Thursday, January 29, 2015. The production will play through Sunday, February 22, 2015.

Baryshnikov Arts Center Presents the New York Premiere of Phèdre les oiseaux, 5/21-29

The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) will present the New York Premiere of Phedre les oiseaux (Phaedra the birds). This new international theater work with text by Frederic Boyer is staged by director Jean-Baptiste Sastre, performed by acclaimed actors Hiam Abbass and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, and features local community members as the production's chorus.

Bobby Cannavale, Matt McGrath to Take Part in 8 Benefit Reading at Williamstown Theatre Festival, 8/6

Williamstown Theatre Festival will take a look at arguably the most contentious social issue of the 21st Century when the Festival presents a reading of "8" on Monday. Artistic Director Jenny Gersten announced today the cast and creative team for the one-night-only event, which will be presented on the Main Stage on Monday, August 6 in a staged reading benefitting Broadway Impact and American Foundation for Equal Rights. T he performance will be followed by a talkback.

Diane Kruger and Alexander Payne will be among the Jury of the Competition at the 65th Cannes Film Festival. The jury will have to decide between the 22 films in Competition in order to select the winners, to be announced on stage during the Closing Ceremony on May 27th, culminating in the announcement of the Palme d'or.

Michelle Williams to Be Honored with 'Oscar Wilde' Award

The non-profit US-Ireland Alliance has announced that actress Michelle Williams will be honored with an Oscar Wilde award. Williams, who has received rave reviews including Best Actress awards from numerous critics groups for her portrayal as Marilyn Monroe in MY WEEK WITH MARILYN, will be honored on Febuary 23, 2012 at the seventh annual 'Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film.'

THE NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR THE ARTS are taking the forthcoming election very seriously. For the first time ever meetings around the country will take place on February 14th at 11am. Meetings will be held at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin, the Radisson Blu Hotel in Galway, and the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork. In Dublin, arts spokespersons from all 5 political parties will attend a meeting to outline their respective arts policies and answer questions.
