The 10th Anniversary Barbour Playwrights Award Begins with GRAND THEFT MUSICAL by Lissa Moira

In 2007, the Episcopal Actors' Guild established a special award to honor the legacy of actor, playwright and EAG member Thomas Barbour (Arthur, Great White Hope) whose support for emerging artists was an inspiration to many. Now, ten years later, the Barbour Playwrights Award has presented staged readings of 27 new plays and given $5,000 to local writers. 

10th Anniversary Barbour Playwrights Award to Kick Off with GRAND THEFT MUSICAL

The Barbour Playwrights Award continues this month with readings of three new plays by writers from Theater for the New City, as well as a special night of celebration including a panel discussion with past winners on the life and creative process of today's playwrights. The festival begins on Thursday, March 9 at 7:00 pm with a reading of Lissa Moira's Grand Theft Musical, a musical comedy based on Robert Sickinger's 1994 musical Platinum Taps, with music composed by John Taylor Thomas.

Rising Circle Theater Collective to Present Four New Works as Part 7th Annual PlayRISE Festival

Four talented emerging playwrights of color - members of the 2016 INKtank Playwrights Lab -  will unveil their exciting new works when Rising Circle Theater Collective presents its 7th annual PlayRISE Festival, a series of staged readings featuring some of New York City's most exciting theatre artists of color. The festival will run from June 16-19 at The Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street in Manhattan).

Rising Circle Theater Collective announces four playwrights for their 2016 playwrights residency, INKtank. Selected from over 50 applicants, the 2016 INKtank writers are Oscar Cabrera, Liz Morgan, Cynthia G. Robinson, and Purvi Shah.

2016 Barbour Playwrights Award Continues with ACROSS THE WAY

The 9th Annual Thomas Barbour Playwrights Award continues this week with a reading of Across the Way by Perry Guzzi. Set in the early 1990's in New York City, Across the Way tells the story of two sisters: Chris, who has a rising career and is moving to Los Angeles, and troubled Abby, who doesn't want to go. It is a story about protecting those we love, no matter the cost. Across the Way is directed by Amy Wright.

WinterWorks 2016: A Festival of New One Act Plays Begins in January

American Renaissance Theater Company will present WinterWorks 2016: A Festival of New One Act Plays, three programs of intimate new plays in The Shop @Cap 21 from January 5 thru 18. The Festival offers eleven works running in rep that, each in its own way, deal with life's beginnings and endings and how they transform us.

A young woman rebels against her own memories of the past as she journeys from madness to love in the New York premiere of Stuart D'Ver's award-winning, pitch-black comedy Kallie. Directed by Elowyn Castle and presented by The American Renaissance Theater Company, Kallie will be performed at CAP 21 Theatre, located at 18 West 18th Street, 5th Floor, today, June 5-22, 2014. Show times are Today-Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm. The Sunday, June 8th performance will be at 3pm. Running time of the show is approximately 85 minutes. Berkshire Playwrights Lab Announces Readings of New Plays by Gino DiIorio, Philip Gerson and Jim DeMarse

Berkshire Playwrights Lab announced the titles and directors of its next three staged readings of new plays. Release Point by Gino DiIorio, directed by Jeff Zinn will be presented on July 11; Apeshit (note: if unprintable, please spell it Apesh!t) by Philip Gerson, directed by Bob Jaffe on July 23; and Existing Privilege by James DeMarse, directed by Matthew Penn on August 8.
