What is there to be said about Angels in America that hasn't already been said? Some would argue that it has passed into the literary canon and is no longer relevant; due to the Reagan-era time frame and a story tied to a health crisis now long forgotten. And yet, the LGBT rights, AIDS epidemic, and drug addiction addressed in this work tread far from thinly veiled plot devices and storylines. This play is just as important now (if not more so) as it was back in 1991. Heartbreaking and conscientious, this contemporary classic is anything but irrelevant in the wake of alarming current events. And Meredith McDonough's production Actors Theater is ample proof of how meaningful this show truly is.

Roundabout Theatre Company has just announced the complete cast of The New York premiere of Anna Ziegler's new play The Last Match, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch. The cast includes Wilson Bethel as 'Tim,' Alex Mickiewicz as 'Sergei,' Natalia Payne as 'Galina' and Zoe Winters as 'Mallory.'
Amnon Kabatchnik's celebrated Blood on the Stage series will grow by two volumes this Fall with the release of two new installments: Blood on the Stage: 1600-1800 and Blood on the Stage: 1800-1900. Published by Rowman & Littlefield, Blood on the Stage: 1600-1800 and Blood on the Stage: 1800-1900 will be available nationwide in late August 2017 and late September 2017 respectively.

I do not read Marcantel as indicting religion as such; she shows us how much groundedness and understanding faith gives. Every faith needs, and has, its own 'Ordnung,' but in order to live fully and well, Marcantel seems to be saying, believers will always need to transcend it. And then, as the play hints, believers will also need to return to it. Every faith journey will thus be a work in progress, forever.

In the last week, the New Opera NYC gave us a cockeyed look at Rimsky-Korsakov's LE COQ D'OR (THE GOLDEN COCKEREL), while Heartbeat Opera took an ax to Puccini, and gave us a 'Madama'-less BUTTERFLY.
SPACE on Ryder Farm, the non-profit artist residency program located on Ryder Farm, an idyllic 200 year-old working organic farm in Brewster, New York announced its 2017 season for The Working Farm, Family Residency, Creative Solutions Symposium and Artistic Residency programs at The Players Club.
