American Theatre Wing Names 2010 Jonathan Larson Award Winners

The American Theatre Wing has announced the recipients of the 2010 Jonathan Larson® Grants. The grants, given annually to honor emerging composers, lyricists and book writers, help to continue Tony Award®-winning composer Jonathan Larson's dream of infusing musical theatre with a contemporary, joyful, urban vitality. After considering 165 applications, Peter Lerman, Daniel Mate, and songwriting team Michael Kooman (music) and Christopher Dimond (book & lyrics) were selected to receive the prestigious grants, totaling $10,000. They will be honored at a presentation on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Touch (240 W52 St.) in New York City.

The American Theatre Wing has announced the launch of a new online, backstage video series, 'In The Wings,' available beginning today (Friday, 10/23) on americantheatrewing.org. Focusing on the people who are almost never in the news but who are essential to the making of the shows we all see and love, 'In The Wings' explores the talents and stories behind the scenes, from the costume and scenic shops to the rehearsal room to the stage itself, with designers, artisans and craftspeople explaining their unique contributions to theatrical art in their own words. These short videos shine the spotlight on disciplines many may not even realize are a part of theatrical production and celebrate the full diversity of talent that contribute to bringing a show to the stage. The American Theatre Wing's 64th Annual Antoinette Perry 'Tony' Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 13, 2010 (8:00-11:00 p.m., live EST) on the CBS Television Network. The awards honor theatre professionals and distinguished achievement on Broadway. The cut-off for nomination eligibility on the 2009-2010 Broadway Season will be April 29, 2010.
