The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) is pleased to announce the eight companies selected for its first annual American Dance Platform, a showcase made possible by a grant from The Harkness Foundation for Dance and dedicated to the memory of Theodore S. Bartwink.

Over the next decade, The Harkness Foundation for Dance will contribute $1 million each to five organizations of prominent importance to the dance field. The grantees are the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Joyce Theater, New York City Center, the 92nd Street Y (92Y), and NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases (HJD), which houses the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Linda Shelton, Executive Director of The Joyce Theater Foundation, has announced that for its 2014 Spring Gala, the organization will honor David Herro and Jay Franke for their extraordinary support of American dance and, especially, arts education. The Joyce's Gala will take place on the Promenade of the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center on Tuesday April 22 at 6pm. The black-tie event, celebrating The Joyce's commitment to arts education, will include cocktails, dinner, dancing and special performances by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Jessica Lang Dance, doug elkins choreography Etc., Momix and the talented young performers of Dancing Classrooms Youth Dance Company. The Harkness Foundation for Dance announced the retirement of its beloved long-time Executive Director, Theodore S. Bartwink as of January 31, 2014. Mr. Bartwink, 85 years old, is continuing physical therapy and rehabilitation from the grievous injuries suffered when run ­down by a car near his home in Kew Gardens, Queens, NY in February 2013.

Parsons Dance and Gala Chair Linda Stocknoff announce the company's 2013 Annual Spring Gala, Strike up the Band! honoring the Board of Trustees of the Harkness Foundation for Dance: Theodore Bartwink, William Perlmuth, and Etta Brandman, on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 7pm at the Mandarin Oriental, 80 Columbus Circle at 60th Street, NYC. The evening, which will be hosted by MC Brett Siddel, will begin with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and silent auction at 7pm, followed by dinner and live auction at 8pm, with a sneak peak of a never-before-seen new piece choreographed by David Parsons. The night will continue with the creation of a brand-new dance created on the spot through improvisation with a ten-piece big band, followed by social dancing with the band.
