The Broadway League Reveals 2015 National Education and Engagement Grant Recipients

The Broadway League has announced the recipients of its twentieth annual National Education and Engagement Grants.  These grants support inspired and inventive programs for a wide range of participants to experience and understand Broadway performances as a form of artistic expression and a powerful educational tool. 

Gattelli & Flaherty's IN YOUR ARMS, Featuring 10 Dance Vignettes by Iconic Writers, Begins Tonight at The Old Globe

The Old Globe opens its 2015-2016 Season with IN YOUR ARMS, a World Premiere dance-theatre musical featuring direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, Lincoln Center Theater's The King and I and South Pacific) and original music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island; two-time Oscar nominee for Anastasia). The production begins tonight, September 16, with an opening slated for September 24, and runs through October 25, 2015.

WICKED, ALADDIN & THE LION KING Set for TDF's Autism Theatre Initiative's 5th Season

Theatre Development Fund (TDF), the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts today announced their fifth season of autism-friendly performances presented through its Autism Theatre Initiative (ATI) for 2015-16.  This season's slate of autism-friendly Broadway matinee performances will be: The Lion King on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Minskoff Theatre, Wicked on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Gershwin Theatre, and Aladdin on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Additional performances may be added later in the season.

Jen Hoguet Awarded 2015 T. Fellowship from Columbia University School of the Arts

T. Fellowship, in association with Columbia University School of the Arts, announces Jen Hoguet as the fourth fellow in the one-year program designed to educate and empower new creative producers. The fellow will receive a stipend of $10,000 with a $20,000 budget for the development of a new theatrical production.

Stages St. Louis to Offer Sensory-Friendly Performance of Disney's THE ARISTOCATS

STAGES St. Louis will present, for the first time, a Sensory-Friendly Performance of its Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production of Disney's The Aristocats on Tuesday, June 23rd at 10:00 AM at the Playhouse at Westport Plaza in Maryland Heights. Modeled on the nationally-renowned Theatre Development Fund (TDF) Accessibility Program's Autism Theatre Initiative, the special performance will provide those on the autism spectrum or other sensitivity conditions an accessible, friendly experience in which to experience live musical theatre.

Writer/performer Alice Eve Cohen, whose solo play What I Thought I Knew closed the 2012-2013 Kitchen Theatre Company season, is back with another play to close another successful season at the Kitchen. Thin Walls is a one-woman play set in a century-old New York City residential hotel, once elegant but now crumbling. This darkly humorous and moving play interweaves stories of the building's long-term residents, its recent arrivals, and its ghosts. Audiences who loved What I Thought I Knew will love this one too! 2015 Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award Recipient Announced

The Leonard McHardy and John Harvey Award (LMJH Award) was inaugurated in 2008 and recognizes the important work of theatre, dance and opera administrators. Recipients of the LMJH Award have at least 10 years of demonstrated commitment to the performing arts, in addition to having made an impact on the industry in Toronto. The award is named after Leonard McHardy and John Harvey, the celebrated former owners of Toronto's Theatrebooks, which they co-founded in 1975. Until its closure in July of 2014, it stood as one of the longest surviving independent bookstores in the country.

Peggy Baker to Receive 2015 George Luscombe Award

The George Luscombe Award was inaugurated in 1999. Revolutionary theatre founder and artistic director George Luscombe founded Toronto Workshop Productions in 1959, marking the beginnings of Toronto's alternative theatre movement. He was Artistic Director for 27 years at TWP.

Rhinebeck Writers Retreat to Host 17 Writers, Featuring Obie, Larson & Kleban Award Winners

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced the 17 writers and 8 new musicals selected for the fifth summer of weeklong retreats. For eight consecutive weeks beginning July 5th, each writing team will have a residency in Rhinebeck, New York. Writers are provided a private home, transportation, food, and a $400 stipend. This year's writers include Obie winner Kirsten Childs, Tony nominee Elizabeth Davis, and 2015 Jonathan Larson award-winners Charlie Sohne, Tim Rosser, and Sam Willmott, who also just won the Kleban Prize. 

Gavin Crawford to Host 36th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards at Harbourfront Centre

The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) today announced the date, creative team, host and venue for the 36th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, the awards show and party that celebrates extraordinary Toronto talent in the performing arts. Dora Awards Producer Jacoba Knaapen announced that the much-anticipated event will take place on Monday, June 22 and that, based on the huge success of last year, it will again be held at Harbourfront Centre.  Tickets go on sale June 1.

The Lortel Awards are being handed out tonight, Sunday, May 10, 2015 at NYU Skirball Center beginning at 7:00 PM EST, and BroadwayWorld will be updating the winners as they are announced!
