Lakeland Theatre Presents FREAKY FRIDAY

Lakeland's 2018-19 season concludes with the first locally produced production of the musical version of Mary Rodgers' classic Young Adult novel Freaky Today. Freaky Today, which opens on February 1, 2019 and runs for three weeks at Lakeland Community College's Rodehorst Performing Arts Center, is directed by Martin Friedman and under the Musical Direction of Matthew Dolan.

Free Political Forum To Follow Performance Of FROST/NIXON At TheatreWorks Silicon Valley

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announces a special post-show political forum for its production of the Tony and Olivier Award-nominated drama Frost/Nixon. Following the 2pm performance of Frost/Nixon on Saturday, February 2 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, audiences are invited to discuss the history and current relevance of the Watergate scandal with Dr. Theodore Glasser of Stanford University and Dr. Terri Bimes of University of California Berkeley in a conversation moderated by Cameron Wells, the assistant director of Frost/Nixon. Glasser, a professor emeritus of Communication whose research specializes in media practices and press accountability, and Bimes, a lecturer and Assistant Director of Research for the Institute of Governmental Studies who teaches about the presidency, will bring their unique perspectives to this free political forum, open to audience members and community members.

Tony Award-Winning Play THE HUMANS Announced At The Alley Theatre

The Alley Theatre and Interim Artistic Director James Black, announce the cast and crew of the family drama The Humans by Stephen Karam and directed by Alley Artistic Associate Brandon Weinbrenner. The New York Times calls the play "a beautiful and moving play…a genuine and precious rarity." The Humans runs March 1-24 in the Hubbard Theatre. TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will kick off the new year with the Tony and Olivier Award nominated drama Frost/Nixon. Written by Golden Globe winner Peter Morgan (creator of Netflix's The Crown), Frost/Nixon is a riveting political prizefight where the cameras roll, the truth spins, and it becomes clear that he who controls the medium controls the message. With America caught in the riptides of Watergate and Vietnam, the former leader of the free world and a lightweight British talk-show host clash in a legendary series of TV interviews that will determine the President's legacy forever. Directed by Leslie Martinson, Frost/Nixon will be presented January 16 - February 10, 2019 (press opening: January 19, 2019) at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro Street, Mountain View. Alley Theatre Announces Continued Latinx Community Enrichment Programs

The Alley Theatre's Education and Engagement Department (ECE) announces the continuation of El Zocalo with the hiring of its first full-time Manager of Community Partnerships, Benito Vasquez. This full-time position is a permanent and integral member of the Alley's ECE team. It has been a vision of the department, and the Alley as a whole, to create a position that can delve wholeheartedly into Latinx initiatives with a mission to enrich our community by bringing resources to local, regional, national, and even international, artists to serve Houston's growing Latinx community. The El Zocalo initiative was launched city-wide last year with a touring production and a comprehensive array of engagement activities.

Legendary Musical Duo Brought to Life in MARIE AND ROSETTA at TheatreWorks

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley presents the West Coast premiere of the roof-raising musical play Marie and Rosetta. Developed at TheatreWorks' 2015 New Works Festival by Lucille Lortel Award-winner George Brant, Marie and Rosetta shares the saga of a musical legend. From stirring up churchgoers in the morning to rocking the Cotton Club at night, Sister Rosetta Tharpe inspired Elvis, Ray Charles, and more on her way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Growing competition on the 1940s Gospel Circuit finds Rosetta auditioning a new partner with a voice made from heaven. Will they break, blend, or find harmony at last?

Roundabout Announces 2019 Underground Reading Series Lineup

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) is thrilled to announce the eighth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as post-show receptions. Central Works Announces 2019 Season, Featuring Four World Premiere Plays

Central Works' 2019 season begins February 16 and runs through November 24, 2019 featuring the world premieres of 4 new plays. This 29th season begins with a bizarre comedy, followed by a Victorian mystery, a political thriller, and then in the fall it takes us on a deep dive into the sensual world of author Christina Garcia. The 2018 Season was celebrated and nominated for the comedy and SRO runs of Patricia Milton's Bamboozled and Cristina Garcia's King of Cuba which featured Marga Gomez as El Comandante. Milton's Bamboozled was a finalist for 6 TBA Awards, including Outstanding World Premiere, Entire Production, and Outstanding Direction - it won for Entire Production, Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Performance for its 2 principal actors, Stacy Ross and Chelsea Bearce. Central Works is committed to new works inspired by social issues, classic texts, and history - every production received a TBA Awards Recommendation, and each played to responsive houses every weekend!

Deborah Lackey Named Director Of Development At Alley Theatre

The Alley Theatre and Managing Director Dean Gladden announced today the appointment of Deborah Lackey as the new Director of Development. Lackey most recently served as the Chief Advancement Officer for the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising management with cultural, healthcare, education, and social service organizations. She assumes one of two leadership positions at the Alley along with the recent appointment of Artistic Director Rob Melrose.

Complete Cast and Creative Team Announced for San Diego REP's production of Julia Cho's AUBERGINE

San Diego Repertory Theatre announced today the cast and creative team for the fourth production in their 43rd season, Julia Cho's Aubergine. Directed by San Diego REP Associate Artistic Director Todd Salovey, Aubergine is an unforgettable story of love, family and the healing power of food. Performances run January 24 - February 17, 2019, in the Lyceum Space Theatre. Tickets start at $25 and are currently on sale to the general public. Previews are January 24 - 29, 2019. Press opening is Wednesday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Narda E. Alcorn Appointed Chair Of Stage Management At Yale School Of Drama

James Bundy, Dean of Yale School of Drama and Artistic Director of Yale Repertory Theatre, announced today the appointment of Narda E. Alcorn as Chair of the School's Stage Management Department and Stage Management Advisor at Yale Rep, for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2019.
