At a press conference held June 7 at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 171 nominations for 197 eligible productions that opened between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011 for the 32nd annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards which honour excellence in the performing arts in Toronto.

PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT has been honored with three Best Musical award nominations from the Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Award organizations. Olivier Award nominee Tony Sheldon has received a Tony Award® nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical in addition to Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Best Actor nominations. Academy Award winning design team Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner have also been nominated for a Tony Award® for their costume design for the stage production. Today, the producers of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT THE MUSICAL announced that there will be a US tour for PRISCILLA starting in the Fall of 2012. The first city and starting date will be announced shortly.

Tony Sheldon, star of the exciting new Broadway transfer PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, recently chatted with Broadway Beat about the long journey that he has taken with the show. Sheldon reveals, 'I did the very first workshop when it was just a 10 day experiment to see whether the film would transplant onto the stage. And by the end of the 10 days when we presented it, we realized this show has legs. So that was when I actively committed to wanting to do the show, but then I had to audition- along with everybody else.'
