The Secret City Announces the Return of the Annual Winter Solstice Celebration

Obie-Award winning performance group, The Secret City, announces their third annual Winter Solstice celebration, Today, December 22nd at 7pm. Special guest performers include Sally Ann Triplett (Sweeney Todd), Elizabeth Marvel (King Lear, House of Cards, Homeland), Leah Coloff (This Tree) and Rhiannon Catalyst (mixed media performance artist). Expect a night of art, music, community, joy and spectacle in the beautiful sanctuary of the historic Judson Memorial Church, in celebration of the darkest night of the year, the 'return' of the light in the night sky and the beginning of winter. Founder Chris Wells will emcee the event.
Brenda Wong Aoki Selected As Recipient Of Hewlett 50 Arts Commission For New Works In Theater And Spoken Word

Award-winning storyteller, playwright, and Bay Area local Brenda Wong Aoki is pleased to announce that she has been selected as a recipient of a Hewlett 50 Arts Commission, a program of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to commission new works by world-class artists. Wong Aoki, in collaboration with the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), is among a stellar group of 10 Bay Area based non-profit organizations that will receive $150,000 to create important and unique work that facilitates discussions around the most pressing local issues happening in our country.

Taylor Mac's Holiday Sauce, the latest installment of the artist's award-winning A 24-Decade History of Popular Music project, will return to The Town Hall in New York City for another skewering of the sacred and the secular today, December 11th at 8pm. A follow-up to its debut at The Town Hall in December 2017, the show explores Christmas as calamity, upending our yuletide traditions and celebrating the holiday in all of its dysfunction with the families you choose to love.

Cherry Lane Theatre is proud to announce that this year's Mentor Project playwrights include Kareem M. Lucas, Matthew Paul Olmos, and C.A. Johnson, who will join the previously announced mentors, Craig muMs Grant, Taylor Mac and Martyna Majok as part of the 21st season of the Obie Award-winning Mentor Project. Producer Scott Rudin announced today that Tony Award nominee Kristine Nielsen will complete the starry cast of Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, the new comedy by Pulitzer Prize finalist and MacArthur Fellow Taylor Mac, joining the previously announced three-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane and two-time Tony Award winner Andrea Martin. Directed by five-time Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe, Gary is set just after the blood-soaked conclusion of William Shakespeare's first tragedy, Titus Andronicus.

Salty Brine announces a new cabaret-theater hybrid, You'll Never Get to Heaven, as the latest installment in his series, The Living Record Collection. You'll Never Get to Heaven is inspired by Laura Nyro's Eli and the Thirteenth Confession. The show will perform at Pangea (178 2nd Avenue) on November 29 and December 13. Doors will open at 6:00pm with shows beginning at 7:00pm on both dates.
