Echo Theater Company Announces ECHO ONE ACT FESTIVAL 2009

The Echo Theater Company is proud to announce its fourth annual ECHO ONE ACT FESTIVAL featuring original commissioned one-acts by some of the nation's top playwrights. Renowned actor Delroy Lindo returns to Berkeley Repertory Theatre with the play that netted him a nomination for the Tony Award - but this time, he's in the director's chair. Following last year's triumph with Tanya Barfield's Blue Door, Lindo takes on August Wilson's African-American epic, Joe Turner's Come and Gone. Staged in the state-of-the-art Roda Theatre, this show begins previews on October 31, opens November 5, and closes December 14.

Public Theater Announces Native Theater Festival 11/12

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) is proud to announce the return of the Native Theater Festival, a four day festival dedicated to presenting extraordinary theatrical work by Native theater artists from the U.S. and Canada. Now in its second year, the Native Theater Festival will run November 12 to November 15 at The Public Theater and will feature three free readings of new works by Native playwrights followed by post-show discussions; a concert by Native and African-American singer Martha Redbone; topical field discussions on issues of particular concern to artists in the Native theater community; and a conversation with Oskar Eustis and other artists on politics and performance that will be open to the general public.

Loretta Greco Announced as Magic's New Artistic Director

Magic Theatre announced Loretta Greco as its new artistic director. Ms. Greco comes to the Magic with an acclaimed directing career regionally and in New York, as well as celebrated producing experience as the Producing Artistic Director of Women's Project in NYC and as Associate Director and Staff Producer of McCarter Theatre.

'Liberty City' by Blank & Thompson Debuts at NYTW Feb.15

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) presents 'Liberty City,' written by Jessica Blank and April Yvette Thompson, performed by Thompson, and directed by Blank; to begin performances Friday, February 15, at NYTW. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4 at 7PM. The production will run through Sunday, March 16.

Broadway Bullet: Interview with 'Yellow Face' Director, Leigh Silverman.

Leigh Silverman is the director of the new play by David Henry Hwang which recently premiered at the Public Theatre. The play, 'Yellow Face' is a look around the issues of color blind casting, and Leigh talked with Broadway Bullet about all these issues as well as how she broke into the directing field.

MTC & Ars Nova Premiere Flahive's 'From Up Here,' Begins 3/27

Manhattan Theatre Club will present the world premiere of From Up Here, Liz Flahive's new American play. This production is presented in association with Ars Nova. The production, to be directed by Leigh Silverman, will begin previews Thursday, March 27 for a Wednesday, April 16 opening at New York City Center - Stage I

'Blue Door' Opens 1/18 with Emigrant Theater at Guthrie

The Guthrie is pleased to announce that David Wiles and Eric Avery will star in Emigrant Theater's upcoming production of Blue Door by Tanya Barfield. The regional premiere, directed by Emigrant Theater Producing Director Jessica Finney, runs January 17 - 27 in the Dowling Studio.

Blue Door at Berkeley Rep Opens April 11

'Blue Door,' a breathtaking new play with music, from promising young playwright Tanya Barfield and directed by acclaimed actor Delroy Lindo, begins previews at Berkeley Rep's Thrust Stage on April 6, opens April 11, and closes May 20.
