Alliance Theatre Announces Upcoming Production TWO ONE-ACT PLAYS BY PEARL CLEAGE

The Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce its upcoming production TWO ONE-ACT PLAYS BY PEARL CLEAGE, featuring Hospice and Pointing at the Moon, performed back-to-back. Pearl Cleage is a beloved Atlanta author and playwright, perhaps best known for her novel What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day, an Oprah Book Club selection, and her play Blues for an Alabama Sky. Hospice was first performed in 1983 and was honored with five AUDELCO Awards for achievement Off Broadway; Pointing at the Moon is a world premiere. Performances are March 23 - April 15, 2018, at the Southwest Arts Center while the Alliance Theatre undergoes a complete renovation. Opening night is Thursday, March 29.

Radford University's Department of Theatre and Film presents a concert reading of Rodgersandhart written and performed by Broadway actor and jazz pianist Jonathan Spivey on Sunday, March 18th at 8 PM in the Hawes Studio Theatre on the Radford University campus. Syracuse University's Department of Drama tackles a seminal work of modern Russian theater as it presents "The Seagull" by Anton Chekhov. First performed In St. Petersburg in 1896, "The Seagull" famously flopped on its opening night and nearly drove Chekhov to abandon playwriting. In 1898, the famous director Konstantin Stanislavsky staged the play at The Moscow Art Theatre where it proved a resounding success and helped establish the company's and the playwright's reputations.

Today the New York premiere of Little Rock was announced, written and directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj. Performances are set to begin Wednesday, May 30, 2018 for a limited run through September 8, 2018 at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (18 Bleecker Street). As is the company's custom, each season they choose one non-Shakespeare play from the canon of American classics.
