Tonight, March 26, 2014, two longtime friends - violinist Hyeyung Julie Yoon and pianist Soyeon Kate Lee - will present an unforgettable evening of chamber music at the new downtown venue SubCulture (45 Bleecker Street, downstairs). The concert features the New York premiere of composer Robert Sirota's Pange Lingua Sonata, written for Yoon and Lee in 2012, and Bach's Sonata in C Minor. Cellist Gregory Beaver joins the ensemble for Brahms' Piano Trio in C Major; Soyeon Kate Lee will also perform 'Agitato/Calmo' and 'Tender Rage' from Robert Sirota's Mixed Emotions for solo piano.

American Lyric Theater's popular series of public libretto readings, The Living Libretto, continues on Wednesday, April 2nd at The National Opera Center. Featuring guest actors from Broadway and off-Broadway, these events are the culminating readings of extensive libretto workshops conducted for the new operas currently being written by ALT Resident Artists. Each reading includes a wine and cheese reception with the featured artists, and is followed by a discussion with the artists moderated by American Lyric Theater's Producing Artistic Director, Lawrence Edelson.

Produced, created and hosted by Bobby Cronin, INSPIRED is a benefit concert series for animal rescue organizations across the country that will play every other month, with a rotating line-up of some of today's exciting musical theatre writers in a casual and intimate setting as they sit behind the piano and, unlike traditional concerts of their material, perform songs by other writers that have inspired their work. The INSPIRED series hopes to spread the word about the 2.7 million adoptable animals that are euthanized each year in America. Jessica Kahkoska serves as associate producer.

The innovative PUBLIQuartet, winner of the Concert Artists Guild Sylvia Ann Hewlett Adventurous Artist Prize and a CAG New Music/New Places Ensemble, will team up with the hip hop poetry trio, The Mighty Third Rail for an original performance at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space on Thursday evening, March 20th at 7:30 p.m. The PUBLIQuartet will begin the evening with Gyorgy Ligeti's Quartet No. 1. The Mighty Third Rail will then perform their own hip hop/spoken word improvisations based on iconic jazz standards by Duke Ellington and John Coltraine, as well as Gil Scott- Heron's 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' along with their own compositions. The concert will come full circle with a re- imagining of Ligeti's Quartet No. 1in which both ensembles will take part, featuring improvisation, electronics, beat boxing, and spoken word in a modern day telling of the Garden of Eden. The performance is part of the PUBLIQuartet's MIND|THE|GAP series, which explores the intersection between jazz, hip hop, and classical genres.
