New York Pops Names Kids on Stage Finalists for 34th Birthday Gala

On January 28 and 29, 2017, The New York Pops held auditions for its Kids on Stage program. Twenty students from ten different schools in New York City were selected from a pool of 117 applicants. These students will perform alongside New York Pops musicians, conducted by Music Director Steven Reineke, at the orchestra's 34th Birthday Gala at Carnegie Hall on May 1, 2017.

The concert will celebrate the multiyear partnership between the actress and stage director and will bring together artists from the stage and screen.

Maestro Steven Reineke lifted his baton, pointed to a first tier box and started the New York Pops playing probably the most well known song ever written as he led the audience in Happy Birthday to soon to be 90 year old John Kander.  BroadwayWorld was there for the opening night exciting concert which celebrated the music of the award winning song writers, the legendary Kander & Ebb.  Cassie Levy and Tony Yazbeck, the triple threat singer, actor, dancers were the concerts guest artists. Probably not since Vladimir Horowitz had a nail tapped into Carnegie's stage for his piano placement has there been better tapping (dancing) than Mr. Yazbeck displayed at this concert.  As in every New York Pops Concert, the joy of the music continues as Steven Reineke hosts an after party.

Smokey Robinson brought the sounds of Motown to the Kravis Center in Palm Beach last night and there wasn't one woman in the audience that didn't became his girl after he sang 'My GIrl', The Temtations signature tune which Smokey and Ronald White wrote and produced in 1964. Smokey Robinson wrote Motown's first song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, Shop Around, for The Miracles, a group he formed while still in high school. The Detroit native would go on to write many Miracles hits, including The Tracks of My Tears, I Second That Emotion and Tears of a Clown (with Stevie Wonder), plus songs for other Motown legends. Fifty years later, his high tenor voice remains a national treasure. The spectacular evening was sponsored by Sunny Sessa in loving memory memory of Leonardo Sessa, and Smokey's performance will surely be a loving memory for all who filled the Kravis Center to hear his great music.

Toronto Symphony Presents 13th Annual NEW CREATIONS FESTIVAL, March 4-11

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) proudly presents its 13th annual New Creations Festival, March 4-11, 2017. Bold, experimental, and cutting edge, this year's Festival is curated by Polaris Music Prize-winner Owen Pallett, a renowned Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist. The 2017 New Creations Festival fuses the pop- and classical-music worlds, with a touch of electronic music, a little dose of improvisation, and a blend of Aboriginal and folk sounds. To further enhance the Festival, concertgoers can enjoy an array of ancillary events-curated by Canadian composer Abigail Richardson-Schulte-including pre-concert performances, intermission chats, and post-concert parties (all included with concert tickets). The Festival also features two more free events: Composers in Conversation, a forum presented in collaboration with the Canadian Music Centre on March 7, and a noon-hour concert at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, presented in collaboration with the Canadian Opera Company on March 9. All New Creations Festival performances are part of Canada Mosaic-a Signature Project of Canada 150.

Christiane Noll to Play the Metropolitan Room this May and June

New York born, New Jersey raised actress Christiane Noll starred on Broadway in the Kennedy Center Revival of RAGTIME, receiving TONY and Drama Desk Award nominations and winning a Helen Hayes Award for her portrayal of Mother. She made her Broadway debut creating the role of Emma in JEKYLL & HYDE, receiving a FANY award for Best actress in a musical.

The National Symphony Orchestra Performs Live on NPR's 'All Things Considered'

The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) was the first orchestra to perform the live music for NPR's All Things Considered, on Monday, February 27. The NSO performs the music featured before and after all of the news segments, as well as new arrangements of the All Things Considered 'theme.' The Orchestra will be led by Principal Pops conductor Steven Reineke, who will also participate in a Q&A together with NSO trombonist David Murray, which will be streamed at NPR Live and the NPR and NSO's Facebook pages, as will video clips of the Orchestra during the show.
