Six directors and 30 actors from the Chicago theatre community will collaborate to create staged readings of six new feminist plays in the Artemisia Fall Festival 2018, to be performed September 24-26 and October 1-3 at The Edge Theater at 5451 N. Broadway. Artemisia Founding Artistic Director Julie Proudfoot and Literary Manager Sharai Bohannon have curated the festival from submissions solicited from writers, agents and literary managers across the US with whom the company has had working professional relationships. One play from the six to be performed will be chosen for further development by Artemisia Artistic Director Proudfoot, who will work closely with the playwright over the next two years to develop their feminist story for a full production in Chicago.

Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced today the nine Bay Area high school seniors selected as finalists for The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts." Each of the finalists will perform live in front of family, friends and a panel of celebrity judges on Monday, June 4. One winner in each category-singing, dancing, and acting-will be presented with a $15,000 check to be used towards their college education. The nine high school senior finalists who will perform are:

Created in 2002 as part of its commitment to the arts, the "Scholarship for the Arts" program has grown into an annual event eagerly anticipated by San Francisco Bay Area high school seniors.
The special New Year's Eve performances feature a pastiche of the best and worst of 2017 Beach Blanket Babylon style. Guests at each show will receive champagne and truffles. The second show ending at the stroke of midnight will feature post-show dancing until 1:30 a.m.
On Sunday, September 24th @ 4pm, a cabaret entitled Beyond The Binary will debut at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre. Beyond The Binary shares the stories of ten LGBTQ+ artists through a variety of musical selections.
