The 11th annual New Stages Festival kicked off at Goodman Theatre on October 29. Appearing in repertory alongside FEATHERS AND TEETH is THE MAGIC PLAY by Andrew Hinderaker, a play that fuses magic and reality directed by Halena Kays; and CARLYLE by Thomas Bradshaw, an exploration of right-wing politics in America through the eyes of an African American Republican directed by Benjamin Kamine. Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, present a special edition of RIPPED: The Living Newspaper DCFS Stories, Sunday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. This RIPPED edition is a night of short plays, poetry and spoken word inspired by DCFS stories and headlines.

American Blues Theater Accepting Submissions for 2015 Blue Ink Playwriting Award Through 9/1

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, announce that American Blues Theater is currently accepting submissions for the 2015 Blue Ink Playwriting Award through Monday, Sept. 1 at 11:59 p.m. The Blue Ink Playwriting Award was created in 2010 to support new work. Competition rules are attached to this email Playwrights may only submit one (1) manuscript each year for consideration. The winning play will be selected by Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater's award-winning Ensemble. The winner of this annual competition will be awarded the Blue Ink Playwriting Award of $1,000 and receive a staged reading at American Blues Theater in Chicago. Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, have announced the third production in American Blues Theater's "Legends and Legacies," the world premiere of Christina Gorman's American Myth, directed by Steve Scott, March 7 - April 6, at the Greenhouse Theater Center's Downstage Studio Theater, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets are $19 for previews, $29 Thursdays and Fridays, $39 Saturdays and Sundays, and $49 for opening night. Previews are Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m. Press/opening night is Thursday, March 13 at 7 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. There are post-show Town Hall discussions following Sunday performances from March 9 - 30.
