AXIS Dance Company Closes Out 2018 With A Flourish & Announces Collaboration With Arthur Pita

Following a successful 4-city tour of Florida that included a well-received appearance at the Forward Motion Physically Integrated Dance Festival in Miami, the company brings its vaunted skill set back to the Bay Area with select performances that include a newly reconceived staging of Robert Dekkers' Flutter, along with AXIS Artistic Director Marc Brew's Quartet No.1 to the Berkeley Ballet Theater, that will then be followed by a collaboration with Crowded Fire Theater, Star Finch, and Ensemble Mik Nawooj at the Bay View Opera House in San Francisco entitled Death Become Life: Banish Darkness, all before segueing to its 2019-20 season that will include a special Oakland-based educational event for Dance Access Day in February, as well as the world premiere of Alice in Oakland-their ambitious and much anticipated collaboration with Arthur Pita-coming to and co-presented by Z Space in San Francisco, November 2019

Dance Umbrella, London's flagship festival of international dance, is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. To mark this milestone DU launched Four by Four - a programme inspired by the festival's four decades of artistic growth, a way of moving forwards by looking back.

New Yorkers To Dance For Unity In AMASS At City College Center For The Arts

The power and joy of dance and the human collective will be in the spotlight as City College Center for the Arts (CCCA) presents the collaborative dance company MG DanceArts in Amass on Friday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by dancer, choreographer and educator Marielis Garcia, Amass presents audiences with an interactive multidisciplinary performance featuring dance, music, sculpture and a good dose of audience participation. Born out of political strife, the piece is designed to help people with vastly different experiences reconnect as human beings through dance. As spectators become the performers, notions of the individual, the group, the past and the future will be tested and explored.

Barbican Theatre and Dance Programme January to June 2019 Announced

The Barbican today announces its full January to June 2019 Theatre and Dance programme. Tickets for the season go on sale to Barbican Members Plus on Wednesday 17 October, to Barbican Members on Friday 19 October and on general sale on Friday 26 October 2018.

Cathy Weis Projects announces the fall 2018 season of Sundays on Broadway, an ongoing series of performances, film screenings, readings, and discussions on Sunday evenings at WeisAcres. The fall season is curated by Cathy Weis and guest curators Jon Kinzel, Jennifer Miller, Mina Nishimura, and Vicky Shick. All events begin at 6pm. $10 suggested donation at the door. Stephen Petronio Company Announces Fifth Season Of BLOODLINES

In 2015, Stephen Petronio Company culminated its 30th anniversary 2014-15 season with a transformation: the launch of Bloodlines. This autobiographical project not only honors the lineage of American postmodern dance, but also traces the influences and impulses that have shaped choreographer Stephen Petronio, an artist uniquely positioned to preserve this postmodern tradition.

Nominees Announced for 2018 Bessie Awards

Glasses clinked and cheers crowded the air as this year's 43 Bessie nominees were announced and celebrated today, July 11, at a cocktail party/press conference at Gibney 280, along with the winners of 2018 Juried Bessie Award and the 2018 NY Dance and Performance Award for Outstanding "Breakout" Choreographer.  (See attached for list of selected nominees)

Hudson Hall Presents Stephen Petronio Company

Stephen Petronio Company announces its arrival in the Hudson Valley with a program of signature, show-stopping works at Hudson Hall. For their Hudson debut, the Company perform three dances by choreographer Stephen Petronio including his newest work, Hardness 10, which marked his third collaboration with composer Nico Muhly and first with fashion designer Patricia Field ARTFASHION; an excerpt from Underland (2003), inspired by the dark, sensual music of Australian legend, Nick Cave; and Bud Suite (2006), which muses on the melodic pop-tunes of Rufus Wainwright. Also on the program is a revival of choreographer Steve Paxton's virtuosic Excerpt from Goldberg Variations (1986), a Bessie-nominated restaging from Petronio's Bloodlines project, established to revive works by post-modern dance masters.

10 Hairy Legs Debuts at Baryshnikov Arts Center for Sixth Consecutive New York Season

10 Hairy Legs, the all male repertory dance company, dèbuts at Baryshnikov Arts Center for its sixth consecutive New York Season for four performances June 7 -10. The program features World Premieres by Bessie Award Nominee and company member Nicholas Sciscione, and Yin Yue. Works by Al Blackstone, Raja Feather Kelly and Christopher Williams complete the program. Sciscione will perform his solo work and Ofer Pelz his original composition at all performances. Tickets are $25 for Adults and $20 for Students and Groups of 10 or more through 10HL.org.

New Victory Announces Victory Dance Summer 2018

This July, The New Victory Theater will present its fifth season of Victory Dance, the Theater's initiative to provide free dance and dance education for kids in New York City day camps, schools and youth programs over the summer. From July 11 - 27, 2018, Victory Dance features three weeks of compelling contemporary dance performances carefully curated for kids ages eight and older.

La Mama Moves! Dance Festival Announces 2018 Lineup

Now about to turn thirteen, La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival, the ever-evolving spring fling of dance that exuberantly commandeers the various theaters of La MaMa each year, takes on yet another challenge in 2018. This year's festival showcases nine artists who take the road less travelled, daring to speak out in new and forceful ways about issues that trouble and inspire them: race, gender, religion, exclusion, each using the body to voice concerns in ways words cannot. Eleven companies, nine performances, including five premieres are on the boards. New this year will be two offsite events: panel discussions about artists and cultural identity, and screenings of rarely-seen films. The 2018 festival runs May 10-June 3.
