Hudson Valley Dance Festival returns to the heart of the Hudson Valley for its fifth annual edition Saturday, October 7, 2017. The afternoon, featuring two enchanting performances, is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Some people have many ideas. And then, some ideas have many people. The origin story of modernism, of the contemporary, of the moment in dance, is an idea that has possessed and inspired the greatest creative minds in history.
The 2017 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to choreographer, performer, writer, educator, and speaker Liz Lerman in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Long ago dubbed the “Democrat of Dance” by Alan M. Kriegsman of The Washington Post, Lerman's extraordinary career of the past four decades includes a wide range of groundbreaking work. Established in 2007, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award's previous recipients include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and choreographer, performer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown, among others.
As its lovers know, dance has a language of its own, written in space by the moving body. By graphically integrating the changing shapes of the dancing body with the static shapes of alphabetical letters, the newest issue of Dance Ink, scheduled for publication March 27, presents a dynamic visual relationship between the two languages, both imaginative and newly provocative. Patsy Tarr founded Dance Ink in 1989.
The fourth annual Dance on the Lawn Dance Festival featuring NJ Dance companies Randy James' 10 Hairy Legs, Donna Scro's Freespace Dance, Maurice Chestnut's Dance Therapy and *DOTL's 2015 'Emerging Commissioned New Jersey Choreographer' Robert Mark Burke, will return on Saturday, September 9 to the front lawn of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Montclair, NJ, 3-5pm, 73 South Fullerton Avenue, a free, public outdoor event.

10 Hairy Legs returns to New Brunswick for its fifth consecutive season at a new location. BAAD! - The Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance forges forward with the 17th annual BAAD!ASS WOMEN FESTIVAL, celebrating the empowerment of women through art, culture and performance. The festival includes evenings of dance, comedy, poetry, music and performance, and this year's title adds the word “nasty” which was used recently to devalue a women's power and brazenness.
