Broadway star Valisia LeKae, a 2013 Tony Award ® nominee for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Diana Ross in Motown: The Musical and an ovarian cancer survivor, joins her gynecological oncologist David Fishman, MD, Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive science at The Mount Sinai Hospital, and Director and Founder of the Mount Sinai Ovarian Cancer Risk Assessment Program, and executives from Toshiba, for the 10-second countdown to the debut of a 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) promoting Ovarian Cancer Awareness on the Toshiba Vision Screens on Thursday, May 1, 9:59:50 a.m., at 46th Street and 7th Avenue.

University of Connecticut Offers New Online Graduate Certificate in Arts Administration in Fall 2014

The University of Connecticut announces a new online graduate certificate in Arts Administration beginning in the fall semester, 2014. For information about the certificate and new online classes in arts administration, visit artsadmin.uconn.edu or contact Frank Mack, Associate Professor, Arts Administration at 860-486-1210. Arts Administration is new program within the Drama Department of the School of Fine Arts and the certificate is being offered through UConn's eCampus.

Matthew J. Pugliese Named New Managing Director of Connecticut Repertory Theatre

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) Artistic Director Vincent Cardinal announced that Matthew J. Pugliese is the theater's new Interim Managing Director. Pugliese is stepping in to fill the role recently vacated by Frank Mack, who served for 10 years as the Managing Director of Connecticut Repertory Theatre. Mack will stay with CRT as Management Associate, and join the Department of Dramatic Arts faculty as Associate Professor of Arts Administration, as he pilots the schools' graduate online certificate in Arts Administration and the new Master of Fine Arts in Arts Administration program.

The producers of ONCE, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and winner of the 2013 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Theater Album, have just announced casting for the first North American touring company. The tour opens at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI with performances beginning on October 1, 2013.

Passport to Broadway Brings South Korean Students to NYC; JOURNEY TO AMERICA Performance Set for 8/20

From July 29-August 21 in New York City, StudentsLive, the premier Broadway Education Company, has brought 48 South Korean students ages 8-14 to NYC (and the United States) for the very first time as they participate in the StudentsLive 'Passport to Broadway' Program (first started in 2009, www.PassportoBroadway.com). This unique cultural experience aims to expose the students (who at the start speak little or no English) to American history, theater and music as they rehearse and put together a special final performance, a musical titled 'Journey to America' which will take place on Tuesday, August 20 at 8pm at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center (248 West 60th Street). This is the 10th South Korean group to participate in the program and other countries have included China, Brazil, Guatemala and Japan.

The musical theatre intensive final performance takes place over 10 days from approximately 8:30am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, at Pearl Studios led by Broadway Musical Directors, Choreographers and Interactive Intensives with Broadway Performers and Guest Artists.

The new, off-Broadway production of Rent began previews on, July 14, and opens Thursday, August 11 at New World Stages. The highly anticipated resurrection of the cult classic, written by Jonathan Larson, is being directed by Michael Greif, who directed the show's original off-Broadway and Broadway productions. The creative team includes choreographer Larry Keigwin, music supervisor Tim Weil, set designer Mark Wendland, costume designer Angela Wendt, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Brian Ronan, and projection designer by Peter Nigrini.
