Last night, Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's new musical THE GIRLS held a gala opening night in aid of charity Bloodwise. Guests at the Phoenix Theatre in the West End included Phillip Schofield, Michael Ball, Graham Norton, Mel Giedroyc and Sian Phillips.

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's new British musical, THE GIRLS, based on the true story, the film and the award-winning play by Tim Firth, Calendar Girls, will open in London's West End at the Phoenix Theatre tomorrow, 21 February . The West End premiere follows sold-out runs at the Grand Theatre Leeds and the Lowry Salford late 2015/early 2016.

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth triumphed tonight, Sunday 19 February 2017, ahead of the opening of their musical THE GIRLS in London's West End on Tuesday 21 February. At an awards ceremony at the Prince of Wales Theatre, they won the prestigious WhatsOnStage Award for Best Regional Production. Gary and Tim and the original Calendar Girls were given a rapturous reception from an audience made up of stars from all the West End shows after Gary, Tim and Joanna Riding performed Scarborough, a song from their musical.

67 Year-Old Understudy Makes West End Debut in Leading Role in Gary Barlow & Tim Firth's THE GIRLS

In spite of intensive medical treatment, Michele Dotrice, who has never missed a performance in her entire career, has been diagnosed with acute bronchitis and therefore unable to perform for the time being.  The part of Jessie in Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's new British musical, THE GIRLS, will now be played by Judith Street, who at 67 is making her West End debut in a leading role.  For her, this is a dream come true.

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's THE GIRLS Comes to the West End

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's new British musical, THE GIRLS, based on the true story, the film and the award-winning play by Tim Firth, Calendar Girls, will open in London's West End at the Phoenix Theatre, with performances from 28 January 2017.  Tickets are on sale from 12.00noon today, Friday 16 September 2016.  The West End premiere follows sold-out runs at the Grand Theatre Leeds and the Lowry Salford late 2015/early 2016.  In the West End, the producers have made a commitment to there being no 'premium-rated' seats, no booking fees and reduced price previews.

Julian Ovenden to Host Gala to Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Stiles + Drewe Prize, May 15

The Stephen Sondheim Society and Mercury Musical Developments today announce the 10thanniversary West End Gala for the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year and Stiles + Drewe Prize. To mark this special landmark occasion, the 2016 competition is being staged at the Novello Theatre in London on Sunday 15 May, hosted by star of stage and screen Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey, Sunday in the Park with George, Merrily We Roll Along, Sondheim 80th Birthday Prom). In addition to this, among this year's judges will be Don Black,Jason Carr, Anne Reid MBE, Sondheim Society Patron Julia McKenzie and Olivier Award-nominated actress Sophie-Louise Dann, reuniting her with Ovenden after they performed together in Sunday in the Park with George at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. Furthermore, writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson will Chair the Student Performer judging panel. 

St. James Studio Announces Full Schedule for LONDON FESTIVAL OF CABARET, April 22

The St. James Studio is delighted to once again be a host venue for the fourth London Festival of Cabaret. Nine events will take place at the St. James over the course of the festival, which will run from Friday 22 April to Sunday 8 May in venues across London including The Pheasantry and the Crazy Coqs. Highlights at the St. James include Sarah Louise Young and Michael Roulston's brand new show Cabaret Whore Presents…La Poule Plombee  and The Jay Rayner Quartet.

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM Sets West End Closing Date

Bend It Like Beckham The Musical recently extended booking at the Phoenix Theatre to 5 March 2016 when the show will then play its final performance at the end of the cast's year-long contract.  Rehearsals began for the critically acclaimed production in March 2015 with a company led by Natalie Dew as Jess and Lauren Samuels as Jules.  The Producers are currently finalising both national and international touring offers including a tour of India visiting multiple stadia.

Today (14 December) Jamie Muscato joins the cast of Bend It Like Beckham The Musical to play coach Joe alongside Natalie Dew as football crazy Jess and Lauren Samuels as Jules, a player with the Harriers, a local women's football team. Sophie-Louise Dann plays the role of Paula with Jamal Andreas as Jess' good friend Tony. Preeya Kalidas plays Pinky, Jess' sister, with Tony Jayawardena and Natasha Jayetileke as her parents, Mr and Mrs Bhamra.
