Today, Birmingham Repertory Theatre has announced 12 new commissions titled The Park Bench Plays a?" a series of micro-plays that illuminate, interrogate and even celebrate today's socially distanced world.
London's landmark festival of European theatre will return for a seventh year this November to showcase boundary pushing work from across the continent. Featuring a jam-packed programme of twenty-three shows from twenty-six countries, including Lithuania, Norway, Estonia, Croatia and Bulgaria, the festival is this year supported by the Hungarian Cultural Centre London and will be headlined by the country's hit show, European Freaks. This year also marks the festival's first ever partnership with Rich Mix, which will open the doors to its east London venue as it stages work alongside The Cockpit and supports the development of three brand new works-in-progress with residencies. It follows a successful collaboration with the West End's The Actors Centre earlier this year on the joint festival, A Piece of the Continent.
Due to popular demand and with sell-out shows in Kidderminster and Bewdley at the start of the 2018 tour, The Dancing Club, a new play written and directed by Caroline Jester, has added a very special performance and venue to its world premiere national touring schedule.
Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti's latest play, Elephant, receives its world premi re at Birmingham Repertory Theatre next month. Directed by Lucy Morrison, Elephant tells the story of a family built on untruths, a family whose lives are at odds with their belief system and asks the question whether it is possible to truly forgive and forget.
The Dancing Club is a new play for community owned spaces, school and village halls, libraries, arts centres and theatres. Produced by Pippa Frith and written and directed by Caroline Jester, The Dancing Club is based around the remarkable and inspirational true story of Kidderminster legends Frank and Wynn Freeman and their selfless drive to get a town dancing.
