Back by popular demand! 2Scoops returns to Joe's Pub with The Farewell Tour.

Last Thursday, July 18, country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs celebrated his 65th birthday, marking 60 years since he struck his first chords on the mandolin. At a concert stop in Stephenville, Texas, Skaggs' good friend and Texstar Ford Summer Concert Series sponsor Doug Montgomery made sure to host the celebration appropriately by surprising him with a guitar-shaped birthday cake.

The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) welcomes guests for a special destination weekend August 9-11 when George Bernard Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra joins Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra to complete the three-part Roman adventure at the Blackfriars Playhouse.

You can forget your troubles or wallow in the richness of Blues in the Night, currently at the Kiln Theatre. The musical revue follows four individuals, known simply as The Lady (Sharon D Clarke), The Woman (Debbie Kurup), The Man (Clive Rowe) and The Girl (Gemma Sutton).

Theatre Arlington closes out the 2018-2019 Season with the first work in Neil Simon's semi-autobiographical trilogy, Brighton Beach Memoirs. This coming-of-age story, opening August 9th, is an affectionate and humorous portrait of a Jewish-American family in 1937 Brooklyn as seen through the eyes of 15-year old Eugene Morris Jerome. Sharing his home with six other family members doesn't give him much privacy to dream about girls, particularly his beautiful cousin Nora, or playing baseball for the Yankees.

Theater Close-Up, a unique collaboration between THIRTEEN and New York City-area Off-Broadway and regional theaters, returns with three new episodes Fridays, August 16 and 23 at 9 p.m. on THIRTEEN and thirteen.org/theatercloseup, featuring a diverse selection of groundbreaking, entertaining plays recorded live on stage, including the broadcast premieres of Jocelyn Bioh's School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play (August 16 at 9 p.m.) from MCC Theater, Martín Zimmerman's On the Exhale(August 16 at 10:15 p.m.) from Roundabout Theatre Company, and Anton Chekhov'sUncle Vanya (August 23 at 9 p.m.) from Hunter Theater Project.

The fifth season of Summer Evenings during the 2019 Mostly Mozart Festival presented 3 delightful concerts, featuring soloists Anthony McGill, clarinet, and Sharon Isbin, guitar.

As rehearsals begin for Blues in Night, Artistic Director of Kiln Theatre, Indhu Rubasingham announces the full company. Joining the previously announced Sharon D Clarke (The Lady), Debbie Kurup (The Woman), Clive Rowe (The Man) and Gemma Sutton (The Girl) are Aston New (The Hustler) and Joseph Poulton (The Barman) to complete the company for the first major London revival in 30 years. Susie McKenna's production opens on 24 July, with previews from 18 July, and runs until 7 September.

The Santa Paula Theater Center will present THE FALL OF LADY M by noted local playwright and actor Michael Perlmutter on its Backstage@SPTC venue, 125 South 7th Street, Santa Paula, with the playwright directing.

Nothing Without a Company in association with Aloha Center Chicago announces the production team and casting for the Chicago premiere of Pakalolo Sweet, written by Hannah Ii-Epstein, and directed by Rachel Slavick, with Lanialoha Lee as Cultural Specialist & Music Director. Pakalolo Sweet previews September 13, 14 & 16th 7:30pm - 9:30pm, and runs September 17th to October 5th, Monday - Saturday at 7:30pm & Saturday at 4:30pm in The Coach House at Berger Park Cultural Center

The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, announced that its 19th edition will take place April 15-26, 2020 in New York City. Since its inception in 2001, Tribeca has been a platform for new work from established filmmakers and discoveries from emerging voices, while exploring innovations in storytelling across film, TV, VR, online, music, gaming and more.

Gravitas Ventures, a Red Arrow Studios company, has acquired Sam Zalutsky's revenge thriller SEASIDE for a digital release on August 20. The film is Zalutsky's second feature film, following his psychological horror movie You Belong to Me, for which he was shortlisted for the Independent Spirit Award's Someone to Watch Award. SEASIDE stars Tony nominee Ariana DeBose in her feature film debut. An original cast member in Broadway's Hamilton, DeBose will be seen next as Anita in Steven Spielberg's highly anticipated remake of West Side Story. Also featured in the film are Broadway stars Matt Shingledecker (Rent, Les Misérables), Steffanie Leigh (Mary Poppins), and Sharon Washington (The Scottsboro Boys, Joker).

Broadway is coming to the big screen! Thirteen movie musicals are currently in development and are set to delight audiences in the coming months and years, from long-awaited movie adaptations to remakes and sequels of fan favorites. With such a variety to look forward to, we're getting you prepared by giving you a peek at each of the movies officially announced to receive the silver screen treatment! I witnessed the best stage effects I have ever seen anywhere (including Broadway), when  on Saturday, July 20, I had the pleasure of seeing BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at the Sharon Playhouse, in Sharon, CT!   While this story is likely familiar to most people, the Sharon Playhouse grips the audience right from the start, not merely by elevating the Enchantress into the air, but by having the Young Prince transformed into the Beast, on stage, in front of the whole audience, in a manner of seconds, with effective use of strobe lights, a successful undertaking of a greater magnitude than what people can expect in a typical magic show, much less a musical!  Without providing any spoilers, for those of you familiar with how the story ends, that happens on stage too, right before our eyes, with effective use of strobe lights.  Lighting Designer Jamie Roderick deserves a lot of credit for working what appears like magic, on the stage.  Every show I have seen at Sharon Playhouse has been wonderful, but this is the best!

Asbury Park based band Lowlight have announced the release of their 2nd full-length album, Endless Bummer, out September 13 via Telegraph Hill Records. Additionally, they have released their track “Horsefoot” via XS Noise.

FOX Entertainment has acquired the U.S. format rights for the hit British reality-competition series “LEGO® MASTERS,” to air on FOX and be produced by Endemol Shine North America, Tuesday's Child and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, it was announced today by Rob Wade, President of Alternative Entertainment and Specials, for FOX Entertainment.

The sensational, striking performer, Jaivant Patel presents a new dance production called YAATRA by Jaivant Patel Dance. The UK tour starts in London at Tara Theatre, London on Thursday 17th October and ends on Thursday 28th November at Deda, Derby. 

Canadian-born, New Zealand-based vocalist Tami Neilson is a firecracker.  Her music cannot be singularly categorized for she channels the spirits of Patsy Cline and Sharon Jones and beyond.  She's an artist with a tremendous range: there is her powerful big-ballad voice, her golden-age of country Americana, the heartfelt Gospel, soul-infused R'n'B, Western swing or belting old style Rock 'n' roll.  Tami encompasses them all and is a personality-powered cyclonic force of nature in stylishly retro attire, long lashes and a stacked-high beehive.  The UK's Guardian has asserted that “her powerhouse voice recalls 1950s stars such as Wanda Jackson and Patsy Cline.”
