On October 17th,  3-Legged Dog will present their annual Benefit Party at 3LD Art & Technology Center at 80 Greenwich Street between Rector and Edgar in Lower Manhattan.  This all night event, called "SHHHHH..." comes fully equipped with new work from 3-Legged Dog, video art from 3LD's Resident Artists, cutting edge installations from 3LD's Media Arts Program (MAP) Artists, 2 dance rooms, open bar 'til midnight, and many more surprises!

The first section of the night is a VIP Benefit Party beginning at 7pm including light refreshments and champagne.  3-Legged Dog will be honoring government and foundation supporters who have significantly contributed to 3-Legged Dog's success and growth over the last several years.  3-Legged Dog wishes to publicly thank these distinguished leaders in our downtown cultural community.  Honorees in attendance include Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, Council Member Alan J. Gerson, District 1, The New York City Council, Susan Chin, Assistant Commissioner, Capital Projects, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Avi Schick, Chairman of the Board, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, Paul Nagle, Director of Communications and Cultural Policy for Council Member Alan J. At 9pm 3LD will open the doors, turn up the music, and start the party!  3-Legged Dog is teaming up with Mean Red Productions (from the "Lose Your Shit" parties) to throw the wildest art party of the year (on the down-low) , "SHHHHH..." Sneak out  to dance to "Lose Your Shit" DJs,  sample psychedelic art, gawk at a freak show, catch live street performers, and  experience the exquisite pleasure of letting loose -- all with an open bar 'til midnight.

3LD's 6,500 sq foot Studio A will house the main dance space with multiple DJs and street performers.  3-Legged Dog will present a live multimedia installation for their next production Rods and Cables.  This ambitious work by Allison M. Keating creates wild chaos with elaborate, bizarre designs and compelling characters all within an intimate cabaret environment.  The installation includes video of a sensual birth scene and a horrific nightmare, embedded in a scenic sculpture with an array of  lights controlled by Arduino, an open source electronics prototyping platform that can read sensors and effect it's surroundings.  Set pieces, design drawings, models, and storyboards will also be on display.  Also shown in Studio A will be ultra-wide footage from 3-Legged Dog's epic production Fire Island.

Studio B, 4,500 sq. ft., will house the second dance floor with multiple DJ's, and showcase work from 3LD's resident artists including: Roland Gebhardt's The Only Tribe, a multi-media stage performance featuring masks, dance, and projected images to explore issues of group identity and societal behavior and will debut in December 2008 at 3LD;  Trick Saddle's Wickets, a radical adaptation of Maria Irene Fornes Fefu and Her Friends set in an airplane with the audience as passengers, premiering in January 2009 at 3LD;  Theater MITU's DRC (or how I learned to act in eight steps) which will premier at 3LD in June 09;  The Unbound Theatre's In Security which will premier at 3LD in late April , and SoGoNo's The Art of Memory which is set to premiere at 3LD during the Summer of 09.

Also joining us in Studio B are some of our development residents:  Reid Farrington's The Passion Project which was developed at 3LD in 08; Stephen Earnhart's Wind Up Bird Chronicles which was developed in 08 at 3LD, and The Team's Architecting which was developed at 3LD in early spring 08, won the 2008 Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Studio C will exhibit brand new 3LD Media Arts Program (MAP) artists who carry on the traditions of risk taking and boundary pushing aesthetics while experimenting with and creating innovative technology.  Music in Studio C is by Mark Coniglio, adapted from the score for his forthcoming work with Troika Ranch entitled Loop Diver.  Projects on display include; Animalia Chordata by Gabriel Barcia-Colombo, a New York-based mixed media artist and filmmaker. Animalia Chordata is an interactive video installation featuring a wide variety of human specimens collected (projected) in bottles and placed on view for your enjoyment, but approach with caution, the characters in each bottle respond to your presence.  Magic Box by filmmaker Ruth Sergel, is an interactive documentary on the life of the legendary 19th century magician Torrini.  Garret Linn, an artist working at the edges of cinema will show two installations about memory and travel. 24 Hour Chinatown, an interactive video piece presenting a walk around a single block in Chinatown, will be projected onto the Studio C windows and can be manipulated by street pedestrians. Colors - Chinatown is a video re-imaging of the colors and surfaces of Chinatown in New York City as an abstract narrative map of a city within a city.

Other MAP artists featured are NOMO (digital artists Peter Norrman and Jeff Morey) who will be projecting their piece Shift onto the white SYMS department store building across the street from 3LD.  Shift is a site-specific installation that explores urban change and patterns of interactions and movement in and around 3LD incorporating live video as well as documentary footage.  For the second time this year, Scott Draves will install Dreams in High Fidelity into 3LD's iconic white lobby (the Tube) to transform the entire space into a 360º projection screen.  Dreams in High Fidelity is created with a cyborg mind consisting of 60,000 computers and people.

"SHHHHH…" a low-downtown party on the down-low will be presented October 17th from 9pm - 6am  (Bar closes at 4am).  Get there early to catch all the installations, videos, and performances.  Admission is $15 at the door, $10 in advance at www.3ldnyc.org or by calling 212-352-3101.  VIP tickets are $100 - $1000; benefit tickets at all levels can be purchased at www.3LDNYC.org or by calling 212-352-3101.
