Chicago Shakespeare Announces 'Short Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet,' 2/23-3/23

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announced today casting for Short Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet, a 75-minute abridged production of Shakespeare's tragedy of true love found-and tragically lost, adapted and staged by Jeff Award-winning director and Chicagoan of the Year in Theater Rachel Rockwell. Providing a quality, family-friendly introduction to Shakespeare on Saturday mornings from February 23 to March 23, 2013, the cast of Rockwell's production includes Chicago actors Christopher Allen and Laura Rook, who make their CST debuts in the title roles.

Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane, presents Andrew Lloyd Webber's triumphant Broadway musical SUNSET BOULEVARD, previewing January 24, opening Friday, February 1 at 8:30 p.m., and running through March 24. The all-star cast is led by Christine Sherrill as "Norma Desmond" (National Tour of Mamma Mia!, Legally Blonde at Marriott Theatre and Xanadu and Curtains at Drury Lane Theatre) and Will Ray as "Joe Gillis" (National Tour of Little House on the Prairie, the new musical Allegiance at the Old Globe Theater, and Irish Repertory's Meet Me In St. Louis). SUNSET BOULEVARD is directed by William Osetek (Drury Lane Theatre's smash hit production of Spamalot and Jeff Award nominee for Best Director and Best Production for Thoroughly Modern Millie.)

Religion and science collide in playwright Catherine Trieschmann's How the World Began, a visceral examination of the way in which we navigate interpersonal relationships involving seemingly irreconcilable beliefs - and just how hard it is to truly listen to one another in an increasingly polarized world. How the World Began runs in the Stiemke Studio from January 16 - February 24, and opens tonight, January 18.

American Theater Company presents two American classics never-before-paired on a single night- The Catholic Repertory: Doubt & Agnes of God - directed by ATC Artistic Director PJ Paparelli and featuring Ensemble Member Sadieh Rifai, Lance Baker, Penelope Walker and Kate Skinner. The productions, which will be performed together nightly Thursday through Sunday, will run starting September 27 and must close November 4, 2012 at American Theater Company, 1909 W. Byron St. Press Opening is tonight, October 5, 2012 at 7:30PM: Doubt begins at 7:30PM and Agnes of God begins at 9:15PM.
