Montalvo Explores LIFE BEYOND EARTH

The Sally & Don Lucas Artists Program at Montalvo Arts Center in partnership with the SETI Institute is proud to announce the 2018 SETI Artist-in-Residence, Felipe Perez Santiago at a lively evening of conversation and performance, presented as part of Montalvo's Open Access series. The evening event, entitled Life Beyond Earth will feature Santiago in conversation with SETI Institute President and CEO Bill Diamond; visual artist and SETI Institute Artist in Residence Program Director Charles Lindsay; Bernard M. Oliver Chair for SETI Research at the SETI Institute Jill Tarter; SETI Institute Artist in Residence and Lucas Artists Program Fellow, Jen Bervin; and Montalvo's Lucas Artists Program Curator Donna Conwell.

Creative Time And Art Basel Announce BASILEA

Conceived by artists Lara Almarcegui, Isabel Lewis, and Santiago Cirugeda-led architecture studio Recetas Urbanas, 'Basilea' encourages reflection on a city's possibilities through a series of immersive projects connecting the City of Basel, its residents, and the over 90,000 fairgoers who attend the Basel fair annually. A Creative Time project commissioned by Art Basel, 'Basilea' will open to the public on May 23, culminating the week of Art Basel. The project marks Creative Time's first international public commission and the first collaboration between the artists. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, will take place at Messe Basel from June 14 to June 17, 2018.

This year marks a half-century since Dr. Martin Luther King's earthly journey ended and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was passed. To memorialize this occasion, The New School's Nth Degree Series and Project1VOICE present Words of Change-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the New School on April 4, 2018 at 6:01 p.m. in the Auditorium Room 106, 66 West 12th Street.

GIFF Announces Dynamic 2018 Feature Film Competition Lineup for 12th International Film Festival

The Suncoast Credit Union Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF) is proud to announce the dynamic 2018 Feature Film Competition Lineup. The festival includes 35 U.S., international and documentary features, as well as other programming, to kick-off its 12th festival season. GIFF will begin on Tuesday, March 20th with the opening night musical/drama, Stuck, starring Giancarlo Esposito, Amy Madigan and Ashanti. 

BWW Review: A FEW GOOD MEN is Gripping at the Central New York Playhouse

The latest production entertaining audiences at the Central New York Playhouse is Aaron Sorkin's suspenseful play, A Few Good Men. Sorkin later adapted the play into a major motion picture of the same name starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore. Director Dustin M. Czarny has once again brought local theatergoers an intense and memorable production. The acting, set design, and meticulous direction are top notch, especially for a community theatre.

Middle Voice at Rattlestick Presents Arthur Laurents's THE ENCLAVE

RATTLESTICK PLAYWRIGHTS THEATER (Daniella Topol, Artistic Director; Annie Middleton, Managing Director) is proud to announce that the Laurents/Hatcher Foundation has awarded The Arthur Laurents Centennial Grant to MIDDLE VOICE, the apprentice company at Rattlestick, to revive Arthur Laurents's THE ENCLAVE. Directed by Victor Cervantes Jr. (The Parlour), THE ENCLAVE will play an extremely limited run at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater (224 Waverly Place) from April 24, 2018 through April 28, 2018.

Sonder House Productions Presents Sam Shepard's TRUE WEST

True West is Sam Shepard's classic 1980 tale of sibling rivalry. Austin, a budding screenwriter house-sitting for his mother outside L.A., finds himself reconnected by chance with his estranged and criminal older brother, Lee. In the heat of the California night, jealousy and mistrust bubble beneath the surface, threatening to destroy what little the brothers have. According to the National Review, "True West still rings true and stands as the greatest American drama since Long Day's Journey Into Night."

Balletboyz To Make Wolverhampton Debut In May

The International Emmy Award-winning, all-male dance company BalletBoyz arrive at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on 14 May following the recent world premiere of their new show FOURTEEN DAYS. The new work from the recent Rose d'Or winners has been created by four internationally celebrated choreographers, alongside four eminent and completely different composers, the new work comprises of four short pieces, and will run alongside their previously acclaimed FALLEN.

Local Student To Represent San Diego In State Finals Of POETRY OUT LOUD

Kylie Greaves, a Senior at Grossmont Middle High School in San Diego took first place in the 2018 countywide Poetry Out Loud competition on February 6th at The San Diego Central Library, Downtown. Greaves will represent San Diego at the upcoming state finals. Harmony Hernandez of San Diego School for Creative and Performing Arts received second place at the event. Write Out Loud - an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading short stories aloud for a live audience coordinates the national program locally.

BWW Review: THE DAISY THEATRE at Centaur Theatre Company

The Quebec premiere of Ronnie Burkett's The Daisy Theatre has been gaining critical acclaim since its opening show on February 22nd at Montreal's Centaur Theatre Company. Burkett has been a legend in the marionette world and continues to push the envelope with his topical shows. He is a craftsman, writer, puppet master, performer, vocal artist and provocateur extraordinaire. He has been creating his own marionettes for decades and is the sole-performer, other than his cheeky and charming characters for which Burkett provides all voices, in all of his shows.

Philadelphia Theatre Company presents the Ars Nova production of the Obie Award winning play Small Mouth Sounds, written by Bess Wohl and directed by Tony nominee  Rachel Chavkin (Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812). In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, six wildy dissimilar runaways from city life embark on a week-long silent retreat. Guided by an unseen guru and pledging a vow of silence, these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd. Both contemplative and funny, Small Mouth Sounds is a cleverly conceived and sharp observation of the pursuit of wellness and the achingly human need to connect.  Small Mouth Sounds will preview on March 13 and opens on March 14, 2018. The show will run for 24 performances through April 1, 2018 at Philadelphia Theatre Company at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (480 S. Broad Street).
