Forthcoming productions at the National Theatre, announced today by Nicholas Hytner, include plays familiar, rare and new: Shakespeare's Othello, Gorky's Children of the Sun,James Baldwin's The Amen Corner;Marlowe's Edward II, Pirandello's Liola, Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude and Georg Kaiser's From Morning to Midnight. Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson's musical The Light Princess will premiere in October, and there will be a new adaptation of Emil and the Detectives for family audiences at Christmas.

The Kennedy Center presents the National Theatre of Great Britain and Bob Boyett production of War Horse from October 23 to November 11, 2012 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Winner of five 2011 Tony Awards® including Best Play and based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo and adapted by Nick Stafford, the tour of War Horse is directed by Bijan Sheibani based on the original Tony Award®-winning direction by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, and presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company of South Africa. Michael Morpurgo's novel, War Horse, is also the inspiration for Steven Spielberg's feature film of the same name, which earned six Academy Award® nominations including Best Picture. Press night will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

Smuggler Films partners, John N. Hart & Patrick Milling Smith and film and theatre producers, Fred Zollo and Barbara Broccoli & Michael G Wilson have announced the creative team for upcoming stage adaptation of the 2007 Academy Award-winning film ONCE, coming to Broadway in Fall 2011. The musical will feature the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, a book by award-winning Irish playwright & screenwriter, Enda Walsh (Penelope, Hunger, The New Electric Ballroom), direction by the acclaimed Scottish director of Black Watch, John Tiffany, design by five time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (The Coast of Utopia, Mary Poppins). Steven Hoggett (American Idiot, Black Watch) will provide musical staging and Martin Lowe (Mamma Mia!) is the music director.
Tori Amos Musical to Have 2012 National Theatre Premiere?

Whatsonstage.com reports that the anticipated Tori Amos/Samuel Adamson musical recently received a workshop at the National Theatre, directed by Marianne Elliott. The source material is 'The Light Princess' by George MacDonald, a fairy tale released in 1864. According to the site, 'puppetry was one of the focal points of exploration.' Puppetry is something Elliott is all too familiar with, having previously co-directed WAR HORSE at the National in 2007. Whatsonstage reports that the musical will see a world premiere at the Lyttelton Theatre in 2012.

Sean Mathias' Theatre Royal Haymarket production of Waiting for Godot, starring Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Simon Callow and Ronald Pickup, today announces a further 2 weeks, making the final performance Sunday 9 August 2009. Mathias' production of Waiting for Godot previewed at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 30 April following a nation wide tour and has since been playing to sell-out houses in the West End.
